About Me

The melancholic, bass-driven, sizzling current of post punk electronic pop and organic emotion, is Amsterdam-based band HURON.HURON was formed in late 2002 by American (Buffalo, NY) frontman and keyboardist, KENNETH JAWORSKI and later joined by Dutch members, bassist /guitarist ALMAR DAVID and drummer, MEL HAGE, to make music that ran through the blood of it's two experienced musicians and principal songwriters, Jaworski and David. Combined with the jazz and progressive influences of their drummer, HURON quickly developed a unique sound that was likened to a myriad of bands such as THE SOUND, (super-charged)BARZIN, SIMPLE MINDS, THE SWANS, DEATH IN JUNE, MANSUN and TALK TALK.... One fan even likened Huron to VANGELIS MEETS THE SMITHS...Privately, the band felt simultaneously flattered and limited by some of these comparisons and worked hard to define their own sound and differentiate themselves from their influences and contemporaries. Never content to join any trend, songwriting expanded into many different directions with the band embracing a sound that is unified by its distinct vocals and its bass playing, but varied widely in the overall feel and ambience of its songs.From 2003 to 2005, HURON continued to play live at venues both large and small, opening for the likes of VIVE LA FETE, their energetic and passionate live performances becoming their signature, and entered the studio with DEPECHE MODE and MUTE RECORDS stalwart, GARETH JONES to work on pre-production and production on a dozen tracks. With HURON back in their studio and the release of their debut album in sight for SEPTEMBER 2007, HURON have decided to join forces with Amsterdam and London-based producer and mixer, ZLAYA HADZIC (THE GATHERING, MOTORPSYCHO, AEREOGRAMME) to finish the album. Legendary London-based design firm, STYLOROUGE, with whom Huron have worked since the beginning, have been brought on to finish the visual and design concepts laid out by the music as well as collaborate on a new album website and promotions.The rest is up to HURON. Cinematic gestures, soulful and sentimental voices, rough, undulating bass and full on guitars, simmering with electronics and atmospheres and underpinned by punchy, unexpected rhythms.... For those who can hear the difference.
