UK UNSIGNED ROCK! (WHAT NEXT??).

About Me

Are you in a Rock band looking for your big break? Why not register today? UKUNSIGNED Rock is a not for profit oganization.Unsigned bands will have the opportunity to showcase in front of music industry professionals regionally and nationwide for an opportunity to play at top venues and festivals supporting signed bands. We have held some events / festivals at London Astoria, Bulldog Bash, Rock Off festivals and Bloodstock (please note Bloodstock will be promoting their own unsigned bands in the future). However we are negotiating for bands to play at other festivals and events and we will forward the best bands to Bloodstock.UKUNSIGNED ROCK is predominately for unsigned bands wanting to improve and play major festivals and showcases. We don't do covers or tribute bands(under 16 bands may play 1 cover). The main thing you need to understand is how a showcase at UKUNSIGNED Rock will work for you. There is no ready-made crowd waiting to cheer your arrival, like any gig it will only work if you can generate an audience yourself. For bands just starting out this often consists of friends, work colleagues, relations, etc. The best way to let people know about your gig is to make up and distribute flyers and to sell tickets issued by ourselves in advance of the gig...Bands are expected to draw a minimum fan base of 20 paying punters to their local showcases to be taken seriously for any future major events and festivals. Bands will only get ticket door money back on the sale of 20 tickets and over [out of town bands can discuss options with us]. Bands who are sent pre sale tickets must collect the money from their fanbase prior to the day of the event, you will be asked to relinquish tickets and money prior to sound check. Plese make sure all moneys are collected form your fanbase (we cannot accept payment for presale tickets on the door, this causes unnecessary confusion). We put on between 5 bands during the week and 10 bands on a Sunday nationwide on the basis that if they all put in the effort and successfully generate a bit of a crowd then they'll all play to a lot of new faces as well as the familiar ones. Groups who have obviously made no attempt to promote and encourage people along to their gig will not be given a second chance. Such bands are taking advantage of the hard work other bands put in as well as the good nature of the venue where expenses such as venue hire, PA, backline and staff costs have to be met.If you are travelling from outside of your region you can maybe look into arranging transport for some of your local following. We understand the difficulties some groups face with this, just be honest with us and we will do our best to help you out. The best bands will be selected to play at different venues nationwide with payment for travel expences.Festival SponsorshipRock Off festival & BulldogbashUKUNSIGNED does not benefit from the revenue of festival tickets or stalls where they run the stage for unsigned bands. UKUNSIGNED have an agreement policy with the organisers that costs relating to the stage, hire of PA,backline equipment and overheads be met by UKUNSIGNED and as such UKUNSIGNED ROCK needs to recouped those costs. Each year we aim to cover our costs for the festivals through the showcases we place for unsigned bands. However, to date, we have not been able to cover all running costs at the festivals where we run the second stage; as a result we have asked the bands selected to perform at festivals (excluding bands that are under 18 and in full time education) to find sponsorship to help aid in covering the costs (no more than £50 per band member, which is also includes all backstage camping/accomodation plus one free ticket per band member and management guest passes) and most have indeed found local support. We hope to get to the point where we will not have to do this and indeed at our own Rockoff Festival in July 2007 bands were not required to get sposorship or to bring people. Please contact us on [email protected] if you know of sponsors which would be interested in sponsoring the unsigned festival stages as well as bands and we will be more than happy to send them a sposorship pack.

The story so far... In Leicester we met:
Silent Torment, a great hardcore thrash band! Tthey already have a worldwide fanbase and they are currentl working on their UK following, they got through to the regionals!
Round 2, an extremely tight Leicester based melodic hardcore band that got through to the regionals!
Scarset, that have already been working with UKUNSIGNED and playing Bulldog Bash with us! They improve everytime with us, they got through to the regionals!
Rust Inhaler, full of great and original ideas! They still need to practice to make it work as its best we will see them again in Bolton!
In Birmingham, as always, we found some great music:
Devil Cried Mercy a very interesting and tight hardcore band, that opened the night with a an impressive amount of energy, they got through to the regionals!
The Archer Home, another hardcore band, with two vocalists that complement each other with great balance, they got through to the regionals!
Trust My Dishonour, bringing a good crowd even if they have been booked in for the gig 24 hours before, performed a healthy raw and powerful rock show! They got through to the regionals!
In Wolverhampton, one of our favorite locations, we saw:
Tundra, our good prog black metal friends! They improved a lot since last time, tightening up and adding variety to the material. Stage presence is the last step they need to take to become unstoppable! They got through to the regionals!
In Ruin A good young metal band, we are looking forward to meeting them again, as soon as they have tightened up an worked on the material, full of still undeveloped potential!
Bury St. Edmunds, after many delays and misunderstanding brought us: Deadlights have unfortunately lost their guitarist, hopefully they will be back soon with a new line up to show us the true potential of their already interesting material!
Fragile Spiral, very original act with great tunes and interesting line up. They still need to work on their identity, we will see them again soon at our showcases!
The Unhallowed are a hardcore line up full of energy! They still need to practice to get tighter but they are indeed doing very well!
Elimination, a great classic metal band with great stage presence and impressive songs! They got through to the regionals!

Bloodloss performed a great set, with a greatly improved singer and an overall feeling that the band is growing and getting stronger.

Machine really impressed us: this extremely young band plays a very technical and mature form of prog rock, with some more work and a bit of time no one will stop them!
They got through to the regionals!
Strength Stands Alone still need to work on the material and on the tightness, the recent line up changes are still clearly affecting their delivery.
Nov 16th, Burnham-on-Sea
Collapse opened the night with their rock/prog riffs and set a good pace for the whole event!
They got through to the regionals!
Das Kunts were a bit penalized by the small stage, that could hardly fit the six musicians, but they surprised us with their original mix elements!
They got through to the regionals!
Armitage Skanks, UKUNSIGNED’s long time friends, performed their usual great rock set!
Nov 17th, Newqay

Stalebreak gave us clear proofs that grunge is not dead, it just evolved in something more elaborated and interesting but still exciting!
They got through to the regionals!
Back Seat Rodeo, a great female fronted classic rock band with great tracks has all the right ingredients, with a little work on the vocal tightness will be ready for big things!
Sick Party Hijinks are young and full of great ideas, but still need to rehearse and define the material.
The Outtakes have been a very interesting change in the pace of the night with their enchanting acoustic rock performance!
They got through to the regionals!

Nov the 25th, London
High Hill are a really interesting band: eighties rock with early nineties influences, a violin, a male vocalist and a lady that sings with the most amazing high pitched operatic voice.. All they need at the moment is a little work on the rhythm section!
They got through to the regionals!
Bolton, Feb the 22nd

Asleep in Panama, good hardcore band, needs to work on the variety of the material, we will call them back for further gigs!

However they have brought their own edge to a style in which SOD earnt their hegemony. They also earned thier place at both bloodstock and bulldogbash this year, maintaining there status as a solid, progressing band.

He is influenced by a variety of genres of music (jazz, metal, funk etc.) and they show when he plays on stage. The Second stage was put on by UK UNSIGNED Rock for the bands that have come through the selection process this year...BLOODSTOCK PICTURES! - If any of the bands ... or their fans would like pictures of them from Bloodstock then message us and we will send them to you.

Download Festival 2007!:
UKUNSIGNED, in partnership with DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL For the first time ever UKUNSIGNED ROCK had the opportunity to work behind the scenes of Download Festival, the most important rock and metal event in Britain. Three of the students on the sound engineering and lighting living in Tottenham, Haringey travelled to Donington to help in the backstage of the Tuborg stage.

The guys arrived on Thursday night and started work on Friday morning. As they met the crew they have been assigned to different tasks to make sure that backline and lighting system were ready for the show. The day was a great experience and great fun, with the bluegrass rock covers of Hayseed Dixie and the groovy metal of Suicidal Tendencies to close the night.

Saturday: the boys have been working hard helping the crew to make sure that the change over of the bands was efficient and that the show would run according to the timetable. They have also been collaborating with the crazy crew of Area 51, making sure the changeover between the performers was going smooth and even starring in one of their cabaret sketches!
