Peace Family, Those who know me will tell you that I am a poet to my core. I am the co-founder of Lyrical Voices: A Night of Poetry. This venue has allowed many to come out of their silence and provide a platform for those who have been yelling for a while now. It has become a mission to let people know how many talented people there are in Bridgeport and the surrounding areas. I also host The Writers Group. This group gives writers the time they would not normally take from their schedule to practice the art they love. We use writing prompts, discussions and the work of other writers to motivate our creativity. This is held the second Saturday of each month at M-Bellish Cafe in Stratford, CT. (The link is on my friend list.) Someone once told me that they wished African American Art reflected the lives of African American women more often. I think it already does, but I thought that I could contribute art which depicts my experience and add to the beauty that has been created since before I began. I took that statement and ran with it as I began to work on my canvas and boxes. My artwork is reflective of my feelings and surroundings. My mission is to express myself and my accomplishment has been that people can relate to the things I feel. I am proud of my work, my paintings put as much into me as I put into them, which makes a great relationship. The bright colors and feelings conveyed in the paintings reflect how I see the world and they make my world look much more beautiful. Hopefully they will do the same for others.
