Profane started out in September 1992. The band already exists since 1989, but it started seriously in 1992. Original members Ed, Jacco and Misha were joined by Marco and started working on serious material. Wolter joined almost immediately, after this.
The first demo was created in the spring of 1993 and entitled: Sorrow.
Sorrow consisted of four, mainly doomy tracks and started the beginning of a lot of international contacts with labels, zines and people who liked the music.
Between 1993 and 1994, Micha joined Ceremony (R.I.P.) and left the band. He was replaced by Marco's brother Johan. The line-up hasn't changed since this last replacement.
In the spring of 1994 our second demo; Requiem was released and the reviews and reactions were even better than they were on Sorrow. Requiem showed, that Profane was no longer a doom-metal band, but had made a switch to death-metal.
Micha is still active in music. He is currently the drummer of Dutch blackmetal band Memorial .
In 1996 we recorded our first mini-CD, entitled Pain. Pain was even mentioned an exemplary recording for starting artists by a well known Dutch metal-magazine.
At the turn of the millennium in the year 2000, Profane hit the studio again, to record Across the Phlegethon. A mini-CD mainly for promotional purposes. However the reactions to the material were very good, so we decided to release it in a very limited number of copies.
Touring was a bit slow, because most members extended their families. Will the Profane offspring continue their fathers musical legacy? Who knows, only time can tell!
Throughout the years, Profane played with many illustrious bands like: Tiamat (S), Edge of Sanity (S), Disfear (S), Natron (I), Sinister (NL), Occult (NL), God Dethroned (NL), Centinex (S), Altar (NL), Katafalk (NL), I.N.R.I. (NL), Obtruncation (NL), Eminence (Br) and many, many more.
In 2004 Profane is still alive and finished recording some new material that will stay true to old school death metal from the end 80's and beginning of the 90's. That and a bit more. The new CD, entitled "Broken Hope", is also one for promotional purposes but is available in a very limited number of copies.
This time, no studio was used. "Broken Hope" was recorded by ourselves, in our "home"-recording studio.
At this moment we've just a started a new recording sessions. We've finished some new material and want it recorded to promote the band a bit further. After 17 years, we're still not tired and hope to go on for a few years. Our main goal for these next years? Playing live as much as possible!
