Marlin Monroe Williford is a native of Detroit, Michigan. He attended Bowling Green State University where he studied with Andreas Puolimenos. He has performed with the Michigan Opera, the Aspen Opera, the Bowling Green Opera, New Orleans Opera, Opera Theatre of Lucca, (Lucca, Italy) and many other smaller companies in the United States of America. He has toured throughout Europe singing with different Opera companies. Roles and scenes in which he has performed are A Little Night Music, La Traviata, Rigoletto Street Scene, Falstaff, Porgy and Bess, Il Tabarro, Ariadne auf Naxos, Carmen, Rondine, La Boheme, Butterfly, Rigoletto, and The rise and fall of Mahagonny, and many others.
He has worked with conductors such as Julius Rudel, James Conlon, John DeMain, David Zinman, and Robert Lloyd. Mr Williford has sung on the Master Classes hosted by Shirley Verrett, Richard Miller, James Conlon, Banita Valente, Susan Menzter, George Shirley, Vinson Cole, Marlena Malas, and the Metropolitan Opera Young Artist Program.
Mr. Williford made his National Public Radio (NPR) debut with, Porgy and Bess as Daddy Peter under the baton of John DeMain. He also just finished a 3-month European tour of Porgy and Bess. He has worked for the Interlochen Arts Academy as an Educational Staff member, an Assistant Director of the opera program, and taught voice in the surrounding city areas. Marlin vocal studies have been with George Shirley, Stephen Smith, and coaches with Donna Brunsma of Chicago Lyric Opera.(Other Musical side:).............Well, I dont keep tabs on the most of my other music gigs, becasue Opera pays the bills. But, so does my other skillz sometime. But, I have sang with:
Karen Clark-Sheard, Daryl Cooley, Sarah Brightman, Mattie Moss Clark, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Derrick Starks and Todays Generation, Tribe of Levi, Bebe Winans, Shirely Ceaser, Dettrick Hadden, Lisa Page-Brooks, Bobby McFerrin, then lots of smaller groups and gigs. I've had chances, but didnt take them, to work with Missy Elliot, LL Cool J, Jaheim, Wyclef, Sounds of Blackness, and P Diddy. (Am I crazy? I have also ventured into vocal arranging. I have had great ear training, and experience with different types of music. I have traveled the world singing in different languages and places, and with all kinds of cultures. So, my tounge/ear/palate is very diverse and new. I am looking to work on folks projects as a singer an/or just an arranger of the voice. Helping you with the harmonies, chords, etc. I also offer vocal coaching for singers and voice lessons.
