New Buffalo is Australian singer / songwriter / producer Sally Seltmann.
In 2003, Sally set up her own studio, where she wrote, arranged and produced her debut album 'The Last Beautiful Day'. The album features Beth Orton, who sings vocals on the track 'Inside' and the Dirty Three's Jim White, who plays drums on three tracks on the album.
'The Last Beautiful Day' was released in Australia in September 2004 through Dot Dash, and later in Japan, the UK and North America by P-Vine, Kooky, and Arts & Crafts respectively.
In early 2006, Sally set up a recording studio in a flower-flanked shed in her own backyard, and began recording and producing songs for her second album titled 'Somewhere, anywhere.'
The songs on 'Somewhere, anywhere.' were written and recorded on a century-old piano, and convey a newfound directness that is as frank as it is beguiling.
While Sally plays most of the instruments on 'Somewhere, anywhere', a few guests join her for the ride, including her husband Darren Seltmann of The Avalanches, Kellie Sutherland from Architecture in Helsinki, Dale Packard from Ground Components and John Lee of Mountains in the Sky.
'Somewhere, anywhere' was mixed and mastered by Franc Tetaz, composer of the score for the cult Australian film Wolf Creek, and the upcoming film, Rogue.
'Somewhere, anywhere' was released in Australia in early 2007 through Dot Dash, and later that same year by the Arts & Crafts label once again.
Back in 2005, Sally Seltmann wrote the song '1234' for Canadian singer/songwriter Feist. Feist added a few of her own lyrics and recorded the song, which is now a single from her new album 'The Reminder'. 'The Reminder' debuted on both the U.S. Billboard 200 and the United World charts at number 16.
'1234' has secured a swag of award nominations [in both the Grammy's and the Brit Awards] for Feist. The song has also featured in advertising campaigns for the iPod Nano and Ebay Australia. As a songwriter, Sally's career has taken an upward turn with the success of the song, with her own 'Cheer Me Up Thank You' featuring in an episode of Grey's Anatomy, along with song placements in a slew of other US television dramas.
Praise for 'Somewhere, anywhere.':
"Sally Seltmann is an unsung national treasure, one of Australia's most gifted songwriters."
