Rhonda Richmond is an incredible individual that was born and raised in Denver, CO. She is a mother; a loving wife and a poet that loves being able to sing to her children. A graduate of the University of Denver's B.A. in Communications Program, and now a graduate student she is pursuing her Masters degree in Literary Arts. Her new books Thought's of the Broken Self-Soul (2006), Dare I Scream Asylum (2006) and Skin Shed (2006) are extensions of her first book, Journal By the Bedside (2004). This collection of works spans over 20 years, various poetic styles and is definitely a tribute to Rhonda's ability to use poetry in multiple forms.
All of Rhonda's poems are pulled from her life experience; they are raw, powerful, unique, heart renching and complicated dips into emotions most people refuse to talk about. Rhonda was raised by her grandmother (with many siblings and cousins-at times seeing up to 15 people living in her grandmothers home) in a small house in the inner city. Rhonda displayed her anger about not having her parents around through fighting until she met up with a teacher in the 4th grade who taught her that she had an aptitude for using poetry to speak about her emotions. Life did not become magically better, but Rhonda began using her poetry to speak about the pain of her relationship with her parents, rape, spousal abuse, religion, and much more. These books are Rhonda's poetic biography and personal victory.

My Interests

Writing has become Rhonda's life passion! Enjoy an excerpt of her work below:

A Paupers Song

There are no pilgrims here
there are no high sails souring
out into the ocean
venturing for a new land
hoping for a new life.

There are no expeditions
no undertakings
no speedy trail blazes down
the path to see what lies
beyond the distance.

This journey is a slow crawl
down the alley up the road
for we are but paupers running
in the darkened paths of
paupers gone before.

What say ye? What?
A calling, a calling in the
distance, in the distance for
me? Just a pauper, only a pauper
dirty, tired, lonely, but free

excerpted from "Dare I Scearm Asylum"

Heroes:

First God!
Mariah Stewart, for all she has done to make a difference in the lives of women before they ever even realized that they needed her.
I have often felt that to have a hero was to give undo esteem to people for the acts they would not have achieved had they not first gotten their strength from God.
I have learned that a hero is someone that has risked their life, or the quality of their life to make yours better without having ever known you existed, just the posibility that you could exist.
This change in my personal beliefs is the reason that outside of Christ (Jesus the Christ) I have had very few people serve as hero in my life. But in honor of those that both knew me (as I was) and sacrificed the same I give homage! To all the men and women that have served as father and mother in my life when my parents could not, all those that prayed for me to find my true self, all those that bled before so I could live now, my husband who deals with every mood I throw at him and my children who prove themselves strong in birth, in life and in love: My life is whole because you all live or have lived!!!
