About Me

Female fronted punk rock and roll hailing from Vancouver BC. Dirty, fast, melodic, big and always bad. The Big Bad officially called it a day as of Sunday, February 17th, 2008.Just returned from a cross-Canada tour in September 2007, had been voted in the Georgia Straight as one of the "best local acts" for 2007.
Myspace Layouts at Pimp-My-Profile.com / Zebra print /The Big Bad Recordings By Mike Usinger Publish Date: April 26, 2007 Middle of the Night (Independent)In the spirit of old-school punk, the three members of East Vancouver's the Big Bad no doubt see themselves as equals. Still, the trio has an underground star in waiting on the uneven but scrappy Middle of the Night, a record that rises above its limitations on the back of frontwoman Margitta Ziercke. As the band's guitarist, she's not going to make anyone forget Tom Morello or that Carrot Top look-alike from My Chemical Romance. But as the trio's singer, Ziercke is a fucking powerhouse, her raspy Midwestern-sounding drawl placing her somewhere between Brody Dalle and Courtney Love before she went all Tinseltown with Celebrity Skin. The stuttering "God Damn Yeah" manages the near-impossible task of making punk rock sexy, while "No One Gets Hurt" is the kind of bulldozer that leads to Friday-night mosh-pit injuries at the Cobalt. Drummer Geoffrey Stratton and bassist Mikey B hold their own on Middle of the Night, but what makes them lucky is that they've got a full-fledged punk-rock tiger at the mike. So even though the songs aren't always there on this five-song outing, you can't help but feel that the Big Bad is about to arrive.

By Devon CodyI'm not much for masochism. Never been much of a sadist either. In fact, prior to this evening, the appeal of the whole S&M thing kinda escaped me. But tonight I got punched by a rather attractive girl, and kind of enjoyed it. Whilst in the heat of an argument with her boyfriend, Toni (we'll call her 'Toni') caught me in the eye with a meaty right hook just as the Gutter Demons took the stage. I'm not quite sure if she missed him altogether, or if it was deflected into my face by all the grease on her dude's pointy little head, but it hurt like hell. On any other night it might have been a bit of a bummer. Fortunately tonight's opening band, the Big Bad, had me full of enough adrenaline and good cheer that I could have taken a kick in the nuts smiling. This was my first time seeing The Big Bad and I'd make an argument that they gave the headliners a run for their money in the "best set of the night" category. Hard driving, hook-laden, punk rock 'n' roll with vocals from a broad that belts it out like Gwen Stefani getting punched in the throat by Courtney Love. No nonsense. No posturing. This lady and two gents just kicked ass and looked good doing it. For all the grief I give rockabilly folks about "their uniforms" I've got to say, I'll take pompadours and girls in seamed stockings over crusty punks with fungus-feet and bugs in their hair any day of the week.Devon Cody ..................................GEORGIA STRAIGHT REVIEW Recordings By Mike Usinger Publish Date: April 26, 2007 Middle of the Night (Independent)In the spirit of old-school punk, the three members of East Vancouver's the Big Bad no doubt see themselves as equals. I don’t know how to describe it. Why the hell do all the bands I like lately have girl singers? Can’t explain it. I really liked this record. Except it was only a few songs. More songs, better. Now, that being said, as much as I liked the record, I did NOT like the band photo that came with it. Not one bit. It has the singer flanked by two very frightened looking men. Actually, I’m kind of scared of her myself. - Ainsworth
