About Me

There was a time when coffeehouses served as the community gathering place. There you would find great debaters discussing policies, politics, community issues, etc. You would also find artist sharing, creating and expressing various art forms that would inspire people and generations. It was a community refuge and community meeting place. It was your home away from home. Here at Urban Grind we strive to be just that. To not only provide quality products, but to maintain a warm and inviting atmosphere and provide great customer service.
We are located at 962 Marietta Street (in the bottom of the MStreet Apt.), 1.5 blocks north of Nortside Dr., 2 blocks directly west of GA Tech), 404-724-0605. Also, www.urbangrindatl.com.
We serve Great Coffee, Amazing Organic Loose Leaf Tea, Smoothies, Pastries, Panini's and if you love Ice Cream, your going to love this - We serve Jake's Ice Cream; Chocolate Slap yo Mama & Brown Sugah Vanilla, mmmmm.

My Interests

I like coffee, tea, ice cream (Jake's of course!) and smoothies and hot chocolate, frozen is the best. I love music, art, film & culture!

I'd like to meet:

Local Artists that are looking for a great place to showcase their art. We have great wall space. I can't wait to hear from poets, authors who want to have book signings or sale their books in our shop, knitting groups who are looking for a place to meet up, filmmakers interested in indie filmmaking, gammers who want to participate in our game nights, discussion groups who want to use our living room to share and unite, workgroups who need a space to colaborate. We are your neighborhood gathering place.

The following scenes were shot at Urban Grind; the patio scene were people are fanning themselves trying to endure the heat and the young man standing in front of the shop on a basketball as Ciara walks along the front of the shop. Additionally, you'll see our Strawberry Smoothie being enjoyed by a young child. Even babies love our smoothies! A couple of our customers were even casted as extras.

URBAN GRIND CELEBRATED IT'S 2th YEAR ANNIVERSARY.

Thursday Night was a special anniversary edition of Open Mic Poetry.

If you missed it, you missed one of our best nights! The Powerful Infra-Red, HBO Def Poets Brigett & Spinexx and our very special guest HBO Def Poet and Tony Award Winner Georgia Me.

Friday was a Musical Celebration, with performances by Mahogany Dust * KC Maestro * Ozara Ode * Looskrooz * * and Haji Basim. Great Music and wonderful night showcasing some of Atlantas best Singers/Songwriters.

Saturday night was a birthday party for Urban Grind.

Everyone played games, Jenga, Connect Four (my Mom even came out and played and I hate to say the connect four ninja has been detroned by her mother), Scrabble Battles, 80's Trivia Pursuit and more. We enjoyed a cake and unadulterated fun. Because of the interest in Karaoke, we will add a karaoke night. Stay tuned for details.

Sunday Brunch was awesome! It was such a pleasure to sit and have brunch with you and we all to get to know each other a little better while enjoying a wonderful brunch prepared by Chef Angela of Lifestyle Cuisine, Breakfast Buritto, Salmon Scrabble, Pancakes, Creamy Grits, Herb Roasted Potatoes, Chicken Sausage.....mmm I'm getting hungry again.

This beautiful person is the reason she knows of her abilities and why she donates all proceeds from her readings to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Clairvoyance for the Cure.

Ok, we'd heard the Actors, Directors & Filmmakers loud and clear. We currently host Poetry, Visual Art, Authors, Gamers, etc. so it's only natural that we provide a platform for Indie Filmmakers and local Actors.

We will be hosting two Film Nights.

Every 1st Friday: "Foreign & Forgotten Films" Truly great independent and foreign films that you may have seen and those overlooked by Holleywood. Come and see filmmaking at it's best. donations accepted

Extremely controversial documentary split into three parts, first producing information discrediting religion. Part 2 describes the problems with what was told to us about the events surrounding Sept. 11 and and provides evidence to show who the writers believe really was responsible for the attacks. The third part deals with banks and resulting theories of World leaders plans to create one world bank.

Join us for the screening and a discussion after.

Every 3rd Friday: Urban Grind's Film Lounge starting in July!

The screening will provide a platform for filmmakers to show their work and received feedback as they prepare for film festivals, look to shop their films, etc. Additionally, it will be a great opportunity for networking with directors and filmmakers as we will have industry guest speakers. Or, you might be just a film junkie like me and want to see and support indie filmmaking.

So if you are writing a film and need a co-writer? Looking for a Director with that special eye? Shooting a film and need Actors? Want to know how to get casted? Come out to the monthly film screening at Urban Grind.
