THE SOUND:Tom Fury runs the gamut from gnarly buzz-saw guitars choking a pretty, spacey melody to acoustic dreamscapes to electronic music that doesn't fear the almighty country cheese in the sky. From the heaviest of metals to the floatiest feeling of a resonating string by an opaque, serene pond, Tom Fury absorbs it all and regurgitates it through their own set of patent-pending filters. Progressively simple, catchy and powerful is probably the best way to describe this band's sound.THE HUMANS WHO PLAY THIS MUSIC:The band is currently comprised of 3 members who all add their unique and fresh-tasting take on the music:smAth offers up a mixture of sometimes insane, sometimes subdued vocals, guitars and keys. Thaddeus holds down the bass and electric guitar and also shares in the back and lead vocal duty. Kirk Griffin adds his guitar wizardry and backup vocals.smAth:Matt "smAth" Barnes been a staple on the Upstate NY music scene ever since he was 14. In that time he has performed and recorded with numerous bands such as Rapture, Red Bed, BenT PeG, Pile of Heads, The Hurtin' Units and The Loiterers. Those who have seen him perform have described it as seeing somebody transform from a shy, unassuming goofy guy to a ranting, raving, confident, seething, sometimes offensive lunatic. He currently plays with The Loiterers (drums, vocals), The Hurtin' Units (keys, vocals) and Tom Fury (keys, guitars, vocals). He has also been a self-described "studio-rat" since 1996, and in that time has managed to learn the in and outs of recording. In 1999, he attained a degree in Recording Arts and Sciences from the world-renowned media arts school, Full Sail. He is now the head engineer at Ultimate Music in Cortland, NY. From 1997-2002 he played drums and sang backups with two of the Upstate NY area's most notorious and influential punk bands, The Filthy Primates and The Loiterers. Both bands have toured the east coast and have made many amazing records. After the disbandment of those two projects, Thad went on to hit things with sticks for the menacing punk/metal band, Greyview, who recorded and toured extensively for 3 years. Period. His influences stretch as far as the imagination can reach. He can shred like it's nobody's business, but usually chooses to go the route of being tasteful over showy. He is one of the founding members of the Upstate NY band, BenT PeG. Through his crushing and inventive guitar riffs he helped make the band into a heavy, melodic and truly dirty funky outfit. As a result, they became one of the areas most unique and popular bands. Other projects he's been involved with include Barnaby Plum and KAPTAIN GRIMACE (solo project), which he produces in his home studio.
