I'm pretty much an open book... big fan of the honest brutal truth. Secrets and lies are too much to keep up with. My life mostly consists of my family, my store, my friends, and the Kerrville Folk Festival. My family is super cool, and really close! Some people call my parents hippies, so maybe they are. But they're more like the rockin' party 70's hippies, than the peace-and-love 60's variety. At any rate, Mom was an army brat and Dad was a Lubbock boy. They met at Texas Tech, fell in love, got married, had me, dropped out of college, and moved to San Antonio because Mom didn't want me to grow up in Lubbock (thank GOD!). My brother Kevin was born shortly after-ward, and my brother Trace some years later. My parents have never really liked to have "jobs", in the traditional sense. They opened a bar/ live music venue in San Antonio called Cibolo Creek Country Club when I was a kid, so I spent much of my child-hood there. Because of this, I know a lot about music and beer (two of my favorite things in the world, by the way)! But, the club went under because San Antonio doesn't (or didn't) support live music. So, both the house and the car got repossessed. That was an unpleasant time. We then moved to the country, to some land in Bulverde to start over. The owners of this land had been investors in the club, and as repayment on their investment, my folks agreed to build a house on their land, which we could live in (rent free) for a while. After a few years, the owners sold the property out from under us, and we were given two weeks notice to move out of the house my Dad was in the middle of building. Back to square one! With the little money they had, my parents bought a virgin piece of land (no water, no electricity) in the same school district so we wouldn't have to change schools. We lived in tents at first, and then in a little cabin my dad built out of salvage lumber with no power and no running water. We had an out-door screened building for a kitchen, and an out-side shower as well. After about a year we got the electricity all hooked up, but I didn't have indoor plumbing from 7th grade 'till I was a senior in high school. Imagine explaining THAT to your friends in middle school and high school! The house has since been expanded, and my little brother's friends call it the "Hippie Mansion". My dad is a sound engineer and musician. He works with James McMurtry most of the time, but he does some other stuff on the side too. He's in a couple of bands and he runs sound a Floores Country Store when he's not on the road with James. I own a denim boutique with my mom, and our store is on Comanche across the street from the lil HEB in San Marcos. Please come shop there! We're remodeling this cool old house and trying really hard to make it, PLUS we've got REALLY cool stuff for guys and girls! We opened the store with NO money, and my rent is perpetually late (kinda like me, but I'm really working on my punctuality)! I live in a cute little house near the river in San Marcos with may friends Autumn and Lenny. We have 2 cats and awesome neighbors! My friends totally ROCK!!! I love them all sooooooo much. They are so supportive and cool and fun! I honestly don't know what I would do without them. Nothing else I could say would do them justice, so I'll just stop there. The Kerrville Folk Fest (not to be confused with the folk LIFE festival) is my healing time. It is what I look forward to every year. It resets me. I've gone every year since I was 5, so this will be my 21st year. I am a veteran volunteer on the volunteer staff. I've worked in the VIP check-in station, and now I have worked up to the cushiest job on the ranch: backstage hospitality! Other than that I swim in the Medina river, listen to good (and sometimes bad) music, sing, smoke, drink lotsa beer, eat hippie food, and hang out with my friends with no worries for about three weeks. There are no TVs, most cell phones don't work, and internet time is seldom. I can't tell you much more about it. If you're curious to know more, you should just go. I'm camped with the loud kids on the tree-line in the lower meadow by the tipis if you want to find me!Hmmm... what else... I LOVE to sleep. I'm scared of roller-coasters, TERRIFIED of cockroaches, and I don't like scary movies. I'm a fabulous cook, but not a big cleaner. I wouldn't say I'm a TOTAL slob, but there is a good amount of clothes on the floor of my room and my bed never gets made. I lose my keys at least once a day. I go to the river more than once a week. I wear my heart on my sleeve, cause that seems like as good a place to keep it as any.So, there it is: More than you ever wanted to know about me... don't you feel productive after having read that? I know I feel productive after writing it!
