Music mainly,but also broadcasting - check out my weekly Sunday night blues show on SaintFM.org.uk between 8pm and 10pm - Radio 4 crime fiction, walking, building guitars and tinkering with amps and other musical gear, photograhy, internet, eBay, Blindman's Blues Forum, The Gear Page, electronic toys.
...oh yeah and did I mention guitars pedals and tube amplifers?
Sonny Landreth - incredible mind-blowing slide-player!
Check these out...
and
...and finally...
I LOVE this song! Minor key slide... SPOOKY!!!
The Myspace video clip below is me playing at the Brentwood jam last Tuesday... interesting for its novelty value rather than any great musical merit.
Cool guitar, though - my trusty Mazeti Mosrite Ventures Model copy, for the record. Sounds more Albert than BB a lot of the time here, but that's no bad thing, I guess!
Basically, I'd been watching a BB King DVD before I went out and so was in that frame of mind... hence the choice of song.
However...
I'd never actually SUNG "Three O'Clock Blues" before and realised to my horror, about two lines in, that I'd picked entirely the wrong key and I couldn't sing the damned thing properly! Forgive me, please, BB!
Ho hum... that's the joy of jamming, I guess!
Blues: Howlin' Wolf, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Sonny Landreth, Bonnie Raitt, Derek Trucks - that kind of stuff.
Rock: all kinds of shit - mainly 70s Zep, Purple, Rainbow (yes, really!) Free, Bad Co, Rodgers.
New/Alt Country: Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Reckless Kelly - anything with edge
This is Spinal Tap;
Walk the Line;
Blues Brothers (yes, really - a great, fun, goodtime film before it became a cliche and it still is!);
1970s Carry On films;
Anything with Rodney Dangerfield or Kathleen Turner in - for entirely DIFFERENT reasons!!!
Not much - Mad Men, 24, CSU, Funland, 'Orrible, Peepshow, Partridge Radio's far better anyway - TURN OFF THE TV AND LISTEN TO RADIO 4!!!
Thrillers - crime, crime crime!
Favourite book:
James Ellroy - "American Tabloid".
Also all Ellroy's other stuff, plus anything by Sara Paretsky, Michael Connolly; Robert Crais; Val MacDermid; Ian Rankin; Laurence Block.
Having said that, I'll read anything in a similar vein, provided it's reasonably plausible well written and carries me along.
Howlin' Wolf; SRV; Lee Brilleaux; Sonny Landreth; Alistair Sim; Sid James
