My parents named me Courtney, but when I was younger I always wished for a different name, something a bit more unique. I've learned to accept it now. I love the mysterious and the mystical, the ancient and the forgotten. I would love to go to Europe, especially to Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Finland), or Japan. I really really want to learn Finnish (It's so adorable! =P) and/or Japanese. If I could have lived in any other time period than now, I would definately live in the medieval times.
I love music, especially metal. My two favorite subgenres of rock are grunge and power metal, but I also love gothic metal just as much. I love the brutal honesty of grunge and the passionate intensity of power metal. My favorite bands include Flyleaf, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, After Forever, Within Temptation, and Evanescence. I'm extremely partial to female fronted bands. I plan on one day being the lead singer of a Christian power metal band, but we'll see. It may end up being a different subgenre, but it will definately be metal influenced. :D
In some ways I am like a chameleon. Depending on my surroundings, I act differently. It's not that I'm changing myself, though, I'm just emphasizing on a different side. I can be very shy, so sometimes people consider me anti-social. Perhaps, but I really do care about people in general. Sometimes I can be really crazy and loud and just...stupid. :P I have been known to run into walls and it seriously be an accident. Other times I can be a bit more passionate about things and wear it all out on my sleeve, but that doesn't happen in public very often. Sometimes I can come across as being cold, and maybe even slightly boring. I'm talented at facades or being deceiving of what's really going through my head, though I've really been working on destroying that. I try to be honest with people and am actually very sensitive. I'm not usually quick to trust, though there have been rare exceptions...those usually turn out bad...
My best friends are Monica, Morgan, Bailey, Sarah, and Ryan. They are amazing people.
I'm musically open-minded, though I'll admit to holding a negative connotation to nu-metal (the whole metal traitor thing, yeah...guitar solos aren't boring, so I take it offensively). I can take nu-metal, I guess, and some are great musicians and are very passionate about what they do. They just haven't ever heard Jani Liimatainen play guitar. I'll listen to country and rap, but I definately don't enjoy it nearly as much as rock music. I like classical and opera a lot, and do listen to some pop punk and industrial. But, metal is my true love.
I like to sing, and when I was in choir at Olive Branch I was a first soprano. My voice has improved greatly since then, if I do say so myself. ;) I love writing song lyrics, and used to play piano, violin, and harp. I still pick at the piano here and there and know enough theory to get by. I play drums at church (but I think I suck), and am about to start drum lessons in a few weeks. I've never been one to want to play an instrument; I just like to sing, and that's where my dreams lie.
I have a large musical background. Most everyone in my family has played an instrument at one time or another. My grandmother was a piano professor at Samford University and was very famous for her skill. She died August 2, 2007 and over one thousand people came to her funeral, and a good many people weren't able to come or found out too late. I'm very proud of my grandma's achievements and hope to carry on the musical legacy. My mom has been a music, piano, choir, and voice teacher, but is now music minister at our church. I've not really had too much formal training in music, but instead have learned by observation.
Believe it or not, I'm into more than just music. I'm also into art. I'm not like the most amazing artist in the world, but I can draw more than stick people (but stick people are awesome!!!). I have great respect for Renaissance artists. I did a little bit of graphic designing, but my program is stupid, so I don't do much anymore. But, anyway, my grandma on my dad's side is an artist and writes art books.
Speaking of which, I love to write, as vaguely mentioned earlier. I, again, write song lyrics, but also have tried my hand at novels (usually mystery/romance...but it's been a long while since I've done anything). I was on the school newspaper staff from seventh grade until second semester of ninth grade when I moved to Grenada (Lord help me). I also like to read. An excellent book is "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis. My favorite author, however, is Frank Peretti. I love his cinematic style and his psychological thriller stories. The movies are also excellent (and Ian Snyder is adorable!!! :D [-Hangman's Curse-])
Basically, if it's passionate/creative, I'm into it.
I love mirrors, though not out of vainity. I just find them interesting. It's really amazing how much they can teach you about yourself. You can watch and read your eyes and gestures and learn about how you come across to people. It can also help you confront situations by talking about it to yourself, if that makes sense. I like to learn about myself, and I suppose am fairly introspective, but there are many more levels I could go.
I'm also a Christian, and that plays a HUGE part of my life. I'm not one of those air-headed Christians that are obsessed with being a goody-two-shoes or one that likes the title but then is hypocritical behind the scenes. I feel blessed to have been raised in a sincere Christian home. I don't know where I'd be had I not had God in my life, perhaps six feet under. When I was younger I used to dread heaven because I thought it would be an eternal church service, but finally I have learned that it is not. Just because I'm a Christian doesn't mean that bad things don't happen to me, it just means I have a hope to get through them and that those experiences are making me into something better in the end. I won't lie and say I haven't been through rough times, but I will say they could've been worse, and that I wouldn't take them back for anything because they've contributed to who I am and to who I will be. In fact, I'm honestly grateful for them.
My greatest fears are unwanted change, hopelessness, numbness, and a handful of mud. Unwanted change brings the next two. The last is simply a realistic nightmare. My dreams mean everything to me.
Oh, and I'm into computers. I used to be really into HTML and CSS back in my RPing days, but I've forgotten most of it, ha. I can type up to like 143 words a minute, but I don't normally type that fast, probably more around 80 or 90. Unfortunately, these speeds have given me carpal tunnel and I am currently wearing big, black braces on my wrists.
I guess I'm an emotional person, but it's more passion than emotion. Emotion fades with the day, but passion stays. I live for passion. I live for music. And those are things you can't control, unlike words that can be as empty and as cheap as you like. But keeping them filled up with honesty, or even overflowing, really tells about the character of a person. I hope people remember me as an honest person with a lot of passion and character. I guess I'll have to wait until I die and from heaven look upon my legacy. Right now, I should be more concerned with making it, hmm? Afterall,there's nothing I can do about it when I get there, I suppose.
So I guess that's basically me. I love talking to people that can tolerate insightful thoughts.
