Moving from an anthro-pocentric to a bio-centric world view

About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4MOVING FROM AN ANTHROPOCENTRIC VIEW - WHERE HUMANS ARE SEEN TO BE CENTRAL AND OTHER SPECIES ARE SEEN TO BE RESOURCES - TO A VIEW THAT EMBRACES OUR SPECIES AS EQUAL TO ALL OTHERS, AS ONE AMONGST ALL OTHERS.Only when we put aside our self perceived human arrogance will we begin to make real lasting changes to our damaged environment.______________________________________________ To say anything about myself would be to paint the canvas for you. We're all multifaceted - moving, changing; how could I pin myself down to being anything in particular...sometimes I am and sometimes I am not, sometimes I'm here and sometimes there. Through the journey of friendship we learn and the journey hopefully wil try not to get stagnant. I'd rather you explored this page to arrive at any conclusions, if that's possible..... More about my work with non-human primates can be seen at the DARWIN PRIMATE TRUST (Check my friends list.) And my art page is on myspace as K_ART - there you will find the CD Cover I did recently for Estelle Kokot's album Information. Any graphic art commissions are most welcome :-) Thankyou for visiting this page. I look forward to meeting many of you.my CARE2 url; http://my.care2.com/imfeneTOWARDS HARMONIOUS CO-EXISTENCE: BABOONS AND HUMANS.FOR THOSE SEEKING METHODS OF SHARING A TERRITORY WITH WILD BABOONS:- If baboons are on your property it can be assumed that something is attracting them and the attraction needs to be eliminated if possible. Once there is no longer any reason, they will eventually tire of coming past your home. - Vegetable gardens, compost heaps and fruit trees are not advisable but if necessary, they need to be enclosed in a cage or electric fencing. - Windows and doors need to be closed (when you go out). When at home, they should not have openings wider than 8cm. - Burglar bars are the best solution to having open windows that baboons cannot get through. - Closed curtains, wooden shutters or one way reflective windows help too. - Rubbish needs to be secure in a baboon proof bin or stored in the garage until collection. - An indigenous garden is not more attractive to baboons than the foliage outside residential areas. WHEN A BABOON COMES ON TO YOUR PROPERTY;BABOONS OUTSIDE THE HOUSE; - Most baboons in this area will respond and run away when shouted at. If this does not work, squirting water through a hosepipe has proved to be effective in The Cape Peninsula. - Other short term solutions such as loud noises or rubber masks also help until the baboons realise they are not harmful.BABOONS INSIDE YOUR HOME; - The best way to deal with a strange baboon is to exhibit passive body language and move out of his way. - If the baboon believes you are ignoring him, he has no reason for fear and reaction. It is best not to make direct eye contact in this situation. - It is important that the baboon has an escape route. If there isn̢۪t one, gently back up and open a window then make sure you are not obstructing the escape path. - Never corner a baboon or trap her inside. - It is important to never try and retrieve anything that has been taken. If it is not food, it will be dropped at some stage. AGRICULTURAL AREAS; - In agricultural areas, electric fencing and baboon monitors are the most efficient options.

My Interests

Environment, other species, other primates non-human, Art - painting, photography, illustration. I LOVE music, doubt I would want to ever be without it but my time spent in cities were much more music involved. The sound of the wilderness is music itself so no longer do I have to constantly have music playing. Can't paint without though. Don't live near a big town where good shows are easily accessible either. Do I miss it? Yes, but somehow this lifestyle simply does substitute for much of the city cultural aspects I miss. Bringing the human world together with the natural one will continue to be a struggle I guess.SAVING SOUTH AFRICAN WILDLIFE - PLEASE READ MY BLOG AND PETITION ABOUT THIS WHICH CALLS FOR MORE PROTECTIVE LEGISLATION. !ATT; D.E.A.T and C.N.C RE; LegislationAddressed to the D.E.A.T. and C.N.C, we are asking for all interested parties to be invited to engage in workshops while provincial legislation is redrafted to meet with N.E.M.B.A requirements. I'd like to meet:

LIFE WITH DARWIN (by Fransje van Riel/ Penguin Publishers)is a book about my past experiences with our cousin the Chacma Baboon. It concentrated on the external journey and the plight of primates in South Africa, effectively achieving its aims. There was much much more to the inner journey. Driven to communicate the many messages the baboons gave me about their inner lives as well as our human place within the environment, I've written more in a manuscript which evolves in different directions as each day presents new information about human primates baboons and the Vervet Monkey too.Primates Africa is a countrywide SA based organisation offering assistance for sharing a territory with wild primates:I'd like to meet friends and anyone interested in the print publishing world. Other artists (of any form), writers, painters, musicians... primates, naturalists...I get on with people who question their socialisation and probably many other things, those who philosophise and wonder and get awestruck by simple experiences.....those who sometimes find it difficult to sleep during the twilight zone because creativity calls them to cathart.....connections. copyright; K.SAKS

Music:

Too many to mention..U2, Sinead, Evanescence,The Verve, Leonard Cohen, Counting Crows, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, David Grey, The CranberrieS, R.E.M

Movies:

HUMANS AND NON-HUMAN PRIMATES: BABOONS AND MONKEYS CAN NOT BE KEPT AS PETS AND ARE HIGHLY VULNERABLE TO PSYCHOLOGICAL DAMAGE WHEN KEPT IN CAPTIVITY. ORPHANED BABOONS OR REHAB CANDIDATES, WHEN TOO YOUNG, NEED A MOTHER AND IF A FEMALE BABOON IS NOT AVAILABLE, A HUMAN SUBSTITUTE WILL DO, TEMPORARILY. THESE PICTURES OF MYSELF WITH MONKEYS AND BABOONS SHOW A PROCESS THAT IS NECESSARY BUT IN ORDER FOR THESE PRIMATES TO BE RETURNED TO THE WILD THEY NEED TO BE "DEHUMANISED".
