About Me

The Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) was founded by a group of Singaporeans.
www.acres.org.sg
Acres aims to:
Foster respect and compassion for all animals.
Improve the living conditions and welfare of animals in captivity.
Educate people on lifestyle choices which do not involve the abuse of animals and which are environment-friendly. Acres strongly believes in promoting community involvement in tackling animal welfare issues and in building partnerships with all related bodies to improve animal welfare.
The society is driven by its concern for animals and adopts research projects on the use of animals in various fields. Research findings are then used to educate the public to promote active community involvement in the animal welfare movement, as well as strive towards synergistic partnerships with authorities and related parties.

Acres has conducted more than 120 roadshows and/or talks to raise awareness on animal welfare issues in Singapore and to create a more socially responsible community. It currently has more than 2,500 individuals on its supporter database.
Acres also operates the 24-hour Wildlife Crime Hotline (9783 7782) which provides an avenue for those who know of anyone who illegally owns or trades in exotic animals, to blow the whistle on these wildlife traders and owners. In the past two years, the work of Acres has led to the rescue of more than 170 wild animals.
Acres has worked closely with several schools and hundreds of students have volunteered for Acres as part of their Community Involvement Programme (CIP).
In all projects undertaken:
Acres aims for the research to result in practical changes for the animals.
The approach is scientific, creative, practical and positive.

Acres works to raise awareness on a variety of animal welfare issues and, to date (as of May 2006), has conducted more than 120 roadshows and/or educational talks throughout Singapore.
Mission of Acres
Acres aims to:
Foster respect and compassion for all animals.
Improve the living conditions and welfare of animals in captivity.
Educate people on lifestyle choices which do not involve the abuse of animals and which are environment-friendly.
We are driven by the belief that animals can feel pain and stress but they cannot speak up for themselves, thus the onus falls on us.
Our approach to raising animal welfare issue is to focus on education and back up our advocacy with scientific clarity accrued through research.
We strive towards synergistic partnerships with authorities and related parties to improve animal welfare.
Our approach is Scientific, Creative, Practical and Positive.
