About Me

Originally from Merseyside, now resident of Cambridge, via London, Brighton, Karystos/Greece, Paris, and London again. I have a show on 209 Radio, which is currently internet-only, but will become a bona-fide Cambridge Community Radio station on FM in October '07. The show is called "Machines Are Funky" and has been in existence since September '04. It's momentum has been steadily building and I'm constantly working to improve it. I've got three kids, all boys at 16, 8 and 6 months, and a beautiful girlfriend, Emmanuelle. Eight year gaps weren't intentional but they don't seem too scarred by it and get on very well together. I often think I've lived my life in a convoluted way but I wouldn't change a minute of itI also have a blog, which can be found on http://machinesarefunky.blogspot.com. Check it out. It is an electronic music-inspired effort that comments on the scene in Cambridge, as well as containing observations on current reading, football and anything worthy floating around at the time. I post mixes of mine on it, plus some from guests on my show. I also post mp3s of tracks from my reasonably complete record collection.

My Interests

Football, music, reading, food, cinema, being idle, keeping maturity at bay.

I'd like to meet:

I've changed my mind about this one. There are currently a lot of people I'd like to get in touch with, particularly music-orientated.

Music:

So much it is impossible to mention it all. Influences firmly rooted in the past, present and future. Stable band format is now, for the most part, something that bores me but search and ye shall find. Modern electronic with its feet planted firmly on the dancefloor. Good djs/selectors with their own ideas about how to move the crowd.

Movies:

Aquirre, Wrath of God, Diva, Orphee, Blade Runner . . . and tons of others

Television:

"Alternative" British comedy, which means most of what passes for being really funny on UK tvs these days. Father Ted, The Mighty Boosh, Look Around You, Monkey Dust . . etc. Football, The News, Current Affairs, Food Programmes.

Books:

Burroughs, although I haven't picked up a book by him in a long time, Ishmael Reed, music journalism, investigative journalism, and loads of other stuff.

Heroes:

Liverpool Football Club past, present and future, but its hard in this day and age to get adulatory about people who are so overpaid that, for the most part, they've lost all perspective of reality and don't realise how lucky they are. Love football, can do without its overpaid employees. First footballing hero, Steve Heighway. I still don't think we've had anyone who can dribble the ball as well since.
