A.WAL SHEDS LIGHT ON THE BAY FANS GET “HYPHY-NATED” ABOUT ARTIST’S ALBUM DEBUT LOS ANGELES, CA (NOVEMBER 26, 2007)After a platinum record from hip-hop heavyweight, E-40, the Hyphy movement has finally gained the worldwide acclaim due it. Following in the footsteps of Bay artist pioneers, A.WAL is turning the heads of industry executives and making noise of his own. In wake of his debut album, appropriately titled HYPHY-NATED, A.WAL has already experienced several career defining highlights along the way. Performing at Grammy related events and snatching the attention of highly respected veterans, Earth, Wind, & Fire, solidifies the belief that this up-and-coming artist is well on his way to reaching great commercial heights! Just in time for the summer, A.WAL’s debut album, HYPHY-NATED is a fine testament of the street aesthetic that will elevate rap into another dimension. “With all of the talk about hip-hop being dead, I can’t think of a better time to debut,” says A.WAL, “I’m not saying I’m the savior of hip-hop but I’m a hip-hop evangelical at the least,” jokingly boasts the young music guru. From club-banging singles like, “Make it Hurt,” NEW HOT SINGLE, “HELLA GONE,”FEAT:NUTTSO FROM THE OUTLAWZ and the feel-good inspirational, “Better Days,” HYPHY-NATED illuminates a form of lyricism not comparable to its counterparts. HYPHY-NATED is scheduled to be released on Empire Music Group, a Los Angeles based label. CEO & President, J.Q. Jackson, anticipates that the Bay Area as well as the rest of the hip-hop industry will welcome A.WAL’s debut. “This album is an anomaly,” says Jackson, “There’s nothing like it on the market. If hip-hop is truly dead, HYPHY-NATED is the defibrillator.”Hip-hop is in a current state of emergency. As the industry searches for a coast to take claim and revive the genre, the bay area continues to spit out artists worthy of receiving the torch of its legendary leaders. With all eyes on E-40, its no wonder the Hyphy movement is considered the outlet for fire-spitting artists. The west coast has long been on the map as one of the most credible producers of head turning, Hyphy music and with up-and-coming artists like Alan Walker, (AKA A.WAL) the Bay Area doesn’t appear to be losing its credibility anytime soon. Appropriately coined, “da Truth,” A.WAL is following a well-paved path of Bay Area greats: 2Pac, E-40, and Too Short. Embodying everything that is real about the hip-hop culture, A.WAL’s highly anticipated debut album is scheduled for late spring release, just in time for a club-banging summer! But for A.WAL, life didn’t always revolve around hot beats and melodic flows. At one point a homeless kid on the streets of a city known for devouring it’s youth, A.WAL was strategically thrown into the studio by his father. Playing an instrumental role in the discovery of his gift, A.WAL’s father viewed his son’s talent as an alternative solution to falling into traditional crime infested ways. A religious upbringing, instilled wisdom, and a fear of God, created a recipe for success for the young music guru. Cooking up hot music is something that A.WAL has perfected by studying the Bay Area music scene. “You have to know your history. You don’t have any business wanting something unless you know how it’s been done by others before you,” expressed A.WAL. With plenty of celebrity area natives to learn from, it’s impossible not to be inspired by west coast music. A.WAL carries a deep love and respect for his home town. “We do things differently in the Bay.” Walker declares, “We have our own music culture with a distinct style and a different feel.”Similar to the South’s “Screw Music” and the Midwest’s “Country Grammar;” along with the Hyphy movement comes a vocabulary of its own. A.WAL expands on the already present Bay Area lingo with the expression, “Hyphy-nated” (a term used to describe how someone feels when they are hyper). By branding words like “Hyphy-nated,” A.WAL strives to step beyond the basics and bring hip-hop back to a place where it’s more than just music, it’s a lifestyle. With undeniable talent and bits of wisdom from music moguls such as Ralph Dickerson, (a member of the iconic group, “Earth, Wind & Fire”), A.WAL is on the brink of touching the sky.“I’ll never forget what he [Dickerson] told me,” reminisces Walker, “He said it doesn’t matter what part you play in the industry and how huge you become. It’s more important for you to remember where you are from and how difficult it was for you to get there.”Walker’s end goal is to pave the way for other Bay Area artists to break into the music industry just as it has been done for him. “I want to give back to the young cats struggling to come up in the game. There is a big playground out there with room for anybody who is serious about the industry and willing to work hard.” Says A.WAL, “Iam living proof.”
