Im a Producer, Composer and Performer and have ve been fortunate enough to work with the best and brightest of my contemporaries. I have a beautiful family and and amazing collection of friends- Bright, Gifted, Remarkable people. I love Asian philosophy, cooking and martial arts and my music is profoundly influenced by the Afro-American tradition of the last 75 years.
The son of musician Mike Patto- Senior (Spooky Tooth, Patto, Timebox, Boxer), I kicked off in music as a bass player and was lucky enough to have the incomprable Boz Burrell (Bad Company, King Crimson) as my mentor. Which meant at a young age I was hip to Coltrane, Mingus, Miles and all the heaviest music of the 20th century. I switched to piano in my late teens, started writing songs and was signed as an artist to BMG aged 20. After finding out very quickly how the world of pop can take good ideas and turn them into rubbish, I split the scene.
All washed up at 23 I began working with the legendery Kenny Lynch who helped me to see the funny side of this game- God bless him. Then at 26 me and some other guys started our own label- Exploding Plastic- It was a massive learning curve that introduced me to a lot of new music (I hadn't really kept with what had gone .. 1977). Being the in-house produdcer I was working on all kinds of stuff (Soulful House, Jazzed-out Drum&Bass, Indie Trip-Hop, 'Appy Hardcore, you name it we were at it). It was there i had the opportunity to work a lot with British soul genius Don-E, Who was and remains a massive inspiration for me.
At the same time I began working with the Brilliant Phil Asher (restless soul) which was to prove pivital in my life and my music, not least for introducing me to Vanessa and Nathan. Since then I have never looked back-Vanessa/Nathan/Phonic Futurista are fantastic projects to be involved with on so many levels.
I have worked on so many different recordings and have been blessed to have worked with many great artists and musicians;Vanessa Freeman, Nathan Haines, Reel People, Chris Frank, Angela Johnson, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Leon Stenning, Domu, Miguel Fuentes, Baaba Maal, Tama Waipara, Omar, Fantatix-Aaron Ross & Neil Pierce, Robert Miles, Tasita D'Mour, DJ Spinna, Rich Medina, Lyric L, Ian Thomas, DJ Spen, Faze Action, Shaun Escoffery, Courtney Dennie, Leo Taylor, Jon Cutler, Tony Momrelle, Sharlene Hector, Seiji, Imaani, Leo Green, Shovell, Modaji, Felix Hopkins- Monkey Brothers, Blair, Kenny 'Kipper' Lynch OBE, Leo Green, Elkie Brooks, The Jinx, Joy Rose, Kloud 9, Scott 'Hooteyshnaaks' Baylis, Patrick Fordge, Davide & Denian Arcoleo, Smoke City, Matt Lord, Wayne Brown, Toni Economides, Shelley Nelson, Stephan Frank, Jag, Diesle, Afronaught, Dynas, and of course Taz&Beefy
