About Me

I have had a wonderful life in music. Above are some of the albums I have been involved in. Soundtravels (from 2000) and Squire for Hire (2004) were both produced by Phil Asher in London, and Lifetime was recorded with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. It features arrangements from the amazing Alan Broadbent, and was produced by myself, and mixed by my guitarist brother Joel. I guested on sax and flute for the Marco di Marco album My London Friends. What a great pianist and a lovely guy. When I moved to London in 1995 I met up with drum and bass producer A-Sides and together we recorded several singles for labels Metalheadz and Re-inforced under the name Sci-Clone. My first solo album Shift Left was made back in 1994 for Polygram records, and was released in the UK on Verve records. I made a mostly live album follow up to this in 1997 called Soundkilla Sessions Volume 1, but it's been deleted, and I was having far too much fun in London to care. I have reformed the backbone of the Shift Left band in New Zealand, with Mickey Ututaonga on drums, Miguel Fuentes (ex Grover Washington and Patti LaBelle) on percussion, and Kevin Field on keys. Every year I bring over my good friends Mike Patto and Vanessa to join us on a summer tour of New Zealand, and with Tama Waipara on vocals alongside Vanessa, the feeling on stage and in the audience is electric. I have just recently finished my 6th solo album which was recorded between New Zealand and London, and features Mike Patto on keys (also executive producer), British rappper Ty, the wonderful Marlena Shaw, Vanessa Freeman and Tama Waipara on vocals, plus guitarists Joel Haines and Dixon Nacey, bassists Jnr Turua and Level Neville, keys from Mike Patto, myself and Kevin Field, percussion by Miguel Fuentes, and production and beats by dj Chris Cox. Watch this space for updates! Over the years I have been blessed to record and collaborate with a lot of amazing artists. These include restless soul, 4 Hero, Bugz in the Attic, Mark de Clive Lowe, Hajime Yoshizawa, Masters at Work, Louie Vega, Jamiroquai, Da Lata, and Reel People. I have just recently finished my 6th annual stint playing sax and flute alongside Marlena Shaw on her European tours, including a great three nights at Ronnie Scotts in London, and she also amazingly has contributed to my latest album. Thanks for dropping by. Peace from Aotearoa (New Zealand).
