The infectious energy that makes DJ Phully, motivated the purchase of his first synth, (the trusty Roland JX3P) back in 1988. He started DJing, around 14 years ago and spent the 90's playing big outdoor parties, clubs and the clandestine warehouse parties that shaped the dance music scene in Auckland around that time.
Having dabbled in trance/progressive through this time he has found his sound in electro - house and has built up a collection of studio hardware and a solid reputation as a producer and DJ. He is adamant he can't be boxed into one particular sound though, and this can be seen in his debut album Phullyosophy Volume 1, released in May 2005. The album is a reflection of the many experiences and skills that Phully has acquired over the years, featuring 11 tracks that range from soulful R&B featuring the vocals from Teremoana Rapley, to dub and chunky rollin' house.
He released the album on his own label, Lovefunk Records along with a few other 12†releases.
People of Auckland will remember the club nights of the same name, along with the popular night at Auckland's Ink Bar, "Squeaky Clean". which featured a lineup of dope local DJs.
Phully's productions have been a regular feature on New Zealand's dance radio stations over the years, he's also written a plethora of ads and several pieces of title music that have been used for docos and TV shows, to "pay the bills".
And not to forget he's a talented broadcaster, having hosted a variety of shows on GeorgeFM, over the last 5 yrs.
His most notable track of late is Daft Fader as released on En:vision Recordings, originally produced for Tom Middleton's Essential Radio Mix for BBC. It received big play from the likes of the Stanton Warriors and Adam Freeland. Jam packed with Luke and Vader samples and the ever-favourite "fart" sounding bass … and you know the best thing about fart bass? It does'nt smell !
