About Me

Hey everybody, thanks for stopping by my DJ page (a little different from the other page myspace.com/dinaregine), but you know what I say...variety is the spice of life. I've been taking time out from club work (with the exception of my drop ins at Providence, Branch & Bogarts from time to time) to concentrate on private event work, working on my next record & my side project (more about that soon). Please visit my main page www.DJDINAREGINE.COM for the full scoop on everything. I pasted a quickie bio below from my webpage for y'all that are just meeting me now for the first time. Oh by the way the song on my Juke box 'Quatre Cordes' was a 4 trk home recording, w/me & Alan Geveart (dEUS). 'Thru the Dust' & Amazing Grace are me n me guitars havin a party. Seeya xxx dina ******* Ps: PLEASE SPARE ME ALL THE HUGE GENERIC PROMO POSTERS... I LIKE THINGS INTIMATE HERE... thanks n kisses****************************************************** ********************* Sought after and frequently known by revelers only by her unofficial DJ tag, 'The Girl'- Dina Regine is a phenomenon on the New York dance scene. Her uncanny ability to read a crowd and change the mood of a room in a heartbeat is legendary. With her trademark mixing style, inimitable blending of genres, and a record and CD collection that would make some radio stations jealous, she has been spinning the minds and bodies at some of Manhattan's hottest clubs for the last two decades..................................................... .......One of the first women DJ's in New York, Dina's career began by chance (if you believe there is such a thing). A meeting in London lead to her being offered job at the NYC club JoAnnas. Not having a clue what she was getting herself into-or even how to DJ-she impulsively accepted the gig on the spot, and using her own innate sense of the vibe, she reinvented the spin. "I didn't know any DJ's back then to show me the ropes", says Dina, "so I had to rely on my instincts as a musician to create my own style of mixing". Almost immediately things began happening at the speed of light for her. Within a year's time she took over the now legendary Monday Night at Heartbreak in Manhattan's West Village, turning an authentic 50's diner by day into a throbbing hotspot after dark. A funky hangout where top models, actors and musicians chilled and danced to Dina's spin...a mesmerizing mix distilled from the white heat of 60's to the 80's dance classics................................... Soon Word got around town and the dance-floor was packed wall to wall from 11 pm till closing at 4 am every Monday for years. One of the first to introduce hip-hop at it's infancy, and alternative rock records to the dance crowd, Dina's magic is her ability to infuse her retro sets with breaking new sounds. It was this mix that caught the attention of her guitar hero Keith Richards, resulting in her DJ-ing his surprise 50th birthday party. Between residencies at the China Club (3 years doing the Monday Nights at the old China Club on 75th), Lot61, Webster Hall, Limelight, and Au Bar, Regine began doing private events. She became the darling DJ of the art crowd, spinning her magic at assorted private events, including Gregory Crewdson and Ivy Shapiro's nuptials (the art world's wedding of the year, Vogue called it), Yvonne Force and Leo Villareal's fantastic wedding in Mexico, and events for Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn and the Rubin family (RMA). She has also worked countless fundraisers, including WWF, Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Momentum Project..................................................... ............................................................ ..Highlighted on MTV and raved over in the New York Times (a hard-driving mix, all eminently danceable) she found herself spinning at high profile parties for Pop icons like Cher, Nike's closing party for the 1984 US Olympics in Los Angeles, Bruce Willis's took her out to Atlantic City for two days for his high school reunion party (and even DJ-ed for her when she needed a break), and recently did his 2006 birthday bash at G2. She rocked the star studded Saturday Night Live's 25th anniversary @ the Rainbow Room, and Richard Gere's 'Healing the Divide' benefit at Lincoln Center, featuring Tom Waits, Phillip Glass, and the Dalai Lama. Regine has shared the stage with artists like Kevin Lytle, The Neville Brothers, Beach Boys, The Temptations, Crash Test Dummies, Deborah Cox, Elton John, and Rhett Miller. In 2005 Regine kicked off the 'First Fridays' series at the Guggenheim Museum to a packed house as well as their fundraiser gala at the 4 Seasons, which was a 'who's who of the art world' event. "Tonight is the event people will talk about" The New York Sun. In April 2007 Regine rocked the New Museum of Contemporary Art's 30th Anniversary Gala at Cipriani NYC. Needless to say, she is always in demand for private events and clubs, spinning everything from electronica & triphop to soul & hip hop, world & rock, rousing everyone to get up and shake their booty to her irresistible beats.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

Influences: EVERY RECORD I'VE EVER HEARD! The first 12" dance mix I ever put on a turntable was a test pressing of the Eurythmics 'Love is a Stranger' that I brought back from London. I started spinning old 60's rock and soul 45's back at Heartbreak (mid 80's) and learned to cut from one song to another on guitar breaks, horn lines, etc. I had no tech skills back in my first year, just musicians intuition and thousands of records from my personal collection... I just made it up as I went along. I loved to layer early hip hop records w/ old soul tracks like, Bill Withers, Billy Sha Rae or Otis Redding. I love 60's and 70's soul, especially the old Atlantic Recordings, anything James Brown or Sly Stone. ******************My record pool 'ROCKPOOL' rocked, best way I can put it. Rockpool opened me up to a whole world of amazing alternative rock from all over the globe, and the Rockpool office had the most amazing staff (and didn't scold me too badly when I was late picking up my records). **************My Rock n Roll Church Sundays at Limelight took me in another direction, learning to incorporate heavy metal in my mixing bag and it was a blast. Webster Hall was a wonderful mashup for me incorporating speed garage, house, hip hop, funk and rock. Opening Lot 61 with Amy Sacco was yet another turn round the bend as I did a lot of lounge/electronica there (I fell in love with all the Kruder & Dorfmeister mixes back then). At the moment, I've been feasting on world music (Brazilian in particular), and my collection is scaring even me! At the end of the day, be it funky, rockin, or late night sexy lounge...I love it all...and..it's all good! I never take for granted that I've been fortunate enough to earn a living as a club DJ (with no day job on the side) since 86'. *************************The first DJ's that got behind me and gave me inspiration back in the 80's were Sharon Lee (who was a genius at manipulating a room and gave me my first big break), Tom Finn (musicoligist, and former rockstar bass player for the Left Banke, I don't know anyone that knows more about any kind of music than him...), Jellybean Benitez (from remixes to live programing, John could rock many a flavour), Little Louie Vega (loved watching him work magic at Heartthrob...and he could always make me laugh), & Toni C (great DJ/songwriter, Toni taught me how to mix house...the right way. Everytime you hear 'I got the Power'...thats Toni's jam). For the friendship of these amazing DJ's...I am forever grateful. I'm still grateful for my DJ family now....nothing is stronger than family x0x0
