Singer/Songwriter/Goofball/Lover of Life!
Michelle Tuthill has been singing since the age of four, when her opera singer father and concert pianist mother discovered her running around the house imitating her father's opera recordings. At the same time (it was later told to her by her grandmother) she would make up plays, and sing and dance them out ...leading to her first professional singing/acting gig when she was seven at The Pasadena Playhouse. Michelle performed professionally throughout her childhood, and two of her favorite memories were getting to fly in "Peter Pan" at The GoodSpeed Opera House on the east coast, and being cast as a soloist at thirteen, in "Werther" at The Music Center in Los Angeles. Since then Michelle has performed nationally and internationally, both in concert and as a session singer for many diverse artists, including : Gamble and Huff (writers for Wilson Pickett, Dusty Springfield,The Jackson 5, The O'Jays, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, etc); Dexter Wansel and Bunny Sigler (writers for Patti LaBelle, Marilyn Scott, Evelyn Champayne King, The Stylistics, etc. ); Rocky Burnette; Rado, Ragni and MacDermot ( Tony winners and writers of "Hair"); Kid Creole and the Coconuts; writers at Disney, and many others... Some fun credits include: winner on both "Star Search" and "Showtime at the Apollo"; being signed with the legendary producing and writing team of Gamble and Huff (writers for Patti LaBelle, The 4 Tops, The Temptations, etc.) in the r&b group "Blue-I -Soul"- (billed as "the white En-Vogue"); soloist On-Broadway at The Shubert Theatre in "Enter Joseph Papp"; playing Janis Joplin and Dusty Springfield in the Off-Broadway production of "Beehive"; touring as the leads in both "Grease" and "Hair" in Europe and in the states; and headlining on Royal Carribean. Michelle's versatility has enabled her to perform as lead female vocalist with many wonderful bands completely differing in style and musical genre, such as "The Melvin Sparks Blues Band"; "The Stan Rubin Swing Orchestra"; the doo-wop group "Starlight" and the gospel group "World Color"... and most recently singing female lead for Arrow 93 fm's house promotional band "The Classic Rockers"- opening for "Toto" at "Taste of Newport" and Glen Campbell at The CBS 4th of July Party...singing anything from Tina Turner, to Aretha Franklin to Janis Joplin...to Dinah Washington to Dusty Springfield. She has an uncanny ability to connect with any and every type of audience, both with her warmth, her "larger than life- built for the stage" persona and sense of humour, combined with her big voice- which can fluctuate between soulful and gritty to smooth and sultry, combined with a vibrant, colorful and sensual stage presence. She's known for being a vocal chameleon...proficient in all genres : jazz, soul, blues, pop, rock, etc. She says : "If I could only sing in one genre, I'd get bored! I'll just have to be known as a "cross-over" artist! If you think about it, everyone on the planet is multi-talented (whether they know it or not- look at Picasso- a genius in both styles of painting!)...why should we limit ourselves?!" Recently Michelle returned from a USO gig with "The Michelle Tuthill Rock and Soul Revue", and can currently be heard on the newest release from "Kid Creole and the Coconuts"- an homage to Cab Calloway entitled : "Too Cool to Conga", singing lead on two tracks as the featured guest vocalist... and billed as "Torch Singer Deluxe". Michelle is "so thankful to be able to sing for all you lovely folks on the planet that I've had the pleasure to sing for so far, and to those of you that I am blessed to sing for in the future... may we all completely enjoy this wild, crrrazy, blissfull ride!!! And...don't forget: miracles can happen EVERY DAY, and DREAMS COME TRUE!!!"
