About Me

Tehuti (Divine Speech): The Art Form of Spoken Word, is the original radio show in the emerging Spoken Word Conscious Movement radio format, conceived by e.g. bailey, and developed since 2002, by e.g. bailey + Sha Cage.
It airs Sundays 11:00pm - Midnight on KFAI Fresh Air Radio, 90.3FM in Minneapolis and 106.7FM in St. Paul. The show is also live streamed on www.kfai.org, and each show is archived for 2 weeks in case you miss one, or want to share with others. Hosted by e.g. bailey + Sha Cage, including special guest hosts.
Tehuti is the Egyptian god of wisdom and literature, and word is translated as "Divine Speech". From this godhead evolved the Greek myth of Hermes, along with the esoteric knowledge and philosophy called the Hermetic Codes (writings). In Egyptian mythology, Tehuti is the witness; he records all the activities of life on a scroll. He is the great lord of books, scribe of the gods, and (possesses) knowledge of divine speechHe is Divine Speech personified. (Ancient Egyptian Myths and Legends) This seems to be the perfect metaphor for writers and spoken word artists, the witnesses of our time.
Tehuti showcases spoken word and spoken word-related recordings throughout history; ranging from different artistic movements such as the Beat Generation and the Black Arts Movement to today. It also highlights recordings from different cultures, translated and in the artists native tongues. In addition, we present the works of such well known spoken word artists such as the Last Poets, Gil Scott Heron, Saul Williams, Carl Hancock Rux, Jessica Care Moore, Tracie Morris, and 2Tongues, among others. Also heard on the radio show are the works of such poets as Langston Hughes, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, and others, recorded with and without music. We also present the best in underground + conscious hip hop, that celebrates the culture + the people. From the Griot to the MC.
Tehuti also features artists from around the Twin Cities area, such as J. Otis Powell!, Atmosphere, Toki Wright, Bao Phi, Divinewords, Arkology, Truthmaze, Edupoetic Enterbrainment, Kanser, Desdamona, POS, Ancestor Energy, and many many other incredible poets. The show premiers unreleased work from underground and emerging artists from the many open mics and performances that happen in the Twin Cities and other Spoken Word + hip hop communities around the globe.
Poetry is essential to our daily existence, to our growth and education, to the evolution of our spirit. Poetry allows us an avenue of expression as to how we see the world, or to experience other ideas and perspectives that help us see the world in different, richer ways. Poetry can help us understand others, other cultures, and other communities. It can be healing for the author and the reader/listener.
The goal of the show is to present the vast collection of poetic voices from around the world, and continue to develop and solidify the format of Spoken Word Conscious Movement, which celebrates the rich tradition of conscious, positive music that elevates, teaches and uplifts the people and the community.
