About Me

I think I was is grade two when the the stage band from the highschool in the little town I grew up in came to play for us. They played all the hits that any 2nd grader would want to hear: The Pink Panther theme, Star Wars, the A&W theme, and a good mix of classical and jazz charts. It was the first time seeing a band of young people playing cool music and having a great time doing it. I loved it and decided that, no matter what, I want to be in "the band" one day. We moved to the city by the time grade six came around and I was old enough to join the school band. It was a bit of a long wait but I'm sure glad it all worked out. I chose the trumpet and couldn't wait to get into all that good music. Now I play professionally and live in Vancouver, BC. I have a degree in Jazz Studies from Capilano College in North Vancouver where I was able to study and play with some of the city and country's best musicians and music educators. At College I played in the "A - Band" under the direction of Mr. Rejean Marois and had the honor of performing wit Cedar Walton, Kirt Elling, JD Walter, Kenny Werner, Nena Freelon, Ed Thigpen, Brad Turner, and John Faddis. I have played with all of Vancouver's Salsa bands and still play with the Sonora Kings, formerly Orquesta Tropicana, when I've got a Saturday night free. Lately, I've been the trumpet player for Vancouver based 11 piece Funk-Latin-Afrobeat band Five Alarm Funk. I've been doing a lot of lead playing in horn sections but am looking forward to getting back to what I love most which is playing jazz with a few of my favorite musicians and friends and writing some tunes.
