Welcome to my Universo...Poet, Songwriter & Singer

About Me

Hi MySpace users, abusers, choosers, winners, losers and especially muso's...

My given name is David, my chosen name is Verso. Together they translate to: 'Beloved Truth', 'Life of Truth' and 'Life of Poetry'. In Latin, the word Verso also means 'The turned page', 'The left-hand page' and 'The other side of the coin'. Check out blog page for an example of my art. I have a load of poems on a freeserve Website: http://www.verso-poet.scriptmania.com
I began writing poetry in my pre-teen years as a protest to the irrelevant poetry that was being force fed in my schooling. Having been published in a number of anthologies, I finally challenged my stage fright to perform my work accompanied by original soundtracks. Around 8yrs ago, I hooked up with a fellow university design student who's biggest passion was making and producing music.
Although I still work closely with the same dude, (Matt Harris-Circleboy, Solar Captive, Jumano), these days I am endeavouring to become more independent and flexible by learning the skills required to engineer and produce my own musical ideas at my modest home studio. I am never short of ideas. The creativity bug continually bites me. I am a prolific writer and composer, I'm just lacking the expertise I feel I need to take my work to a level that satisfies my high standards.
Presently, I am working on a demo to send to song publishers, as lyric writing is my first love. I would like to collaborate with passionate muso's and producers from around the world... so if you have the time, the inclination and like what you hear, get in touch; who knows where it may lead. All of the songs on this page, as well as my Circleboy project, have been first take vocals. I love to capture the moment and get most out of that free flowing vibe you get with creating music on the fly with fellow musicians that can also tune into the vibe that is alive in the moment of its creation. It's like a drug with no ill or bad after effects.
One of my favourite chills has been playing with two former members of Arrested Development, (Za Benjamin & Kennedy Atkinson). Those dudes have played with some of the greatest artists of our time...Stevie Wonder, Weather Report, Chaka Khan...etc. We all ended up at a house party after playing at the same venue in Cardiff, and jammed until stupid o'clock in the morning. Those guys helped me to believe in my ability as a singer and songwriter with such heavy praise...they made me blush. I can sing ok, but my first priority with my projects is the lyrical content. So many bands and artists neglect this vital aspect of the art and satisfy their egos with throwaway words... "If you got nothing good to say, say nothing."
You can hear more of my work on MySpace with 'Circleboy' & 'Solar Captive'. I will also try set up another account to give air to my instrumental & experimental choons in the near future.
Please 4giv me if I don't respond quickly 2 any comments or feedback, it's just that I don't have the Net at home... 2 much of a distraction 4 me @ the mo as I need that time 2 develop my production and engineering skills.
My ambition is to bring the Ivor Novello back to the birthplace of the dude. I used to live just a few doors away from the address near the city centre of Cardiff. I have written around a 800 poems and around 300 songs to date, with no sign of drying up or getting writers block.
Peace and Big Love to All

Kids these days
don't give a fuck
Their boredom is measured
with each rock they chuck
Petty criminals
looking for a fast buck
Another dick to suck
for slow brains
A big loss
for small immoral gains
No joy rides
take away the pains
Don't give a shit
A stinking attitude
The only language they speak
is 'mother fucking' crude
Terrified runts
become the hardest cunts
Violence as normality
If bullying is all they see
another bully they will be
Victims choose victims
to be viciously humbled
Burnt like last blims
Slowly crumbled
They dissolve an excuse
into solvent abuse
Cut the thread
in a poisoned head
that tries to forget
yet survives to regret
a dark disguise
that hasn't worked yet
Plenty to say
Nothing to lose
Crack cocaine
and cheap booze
Street hanging
Gang banging
Little girls and boys compete
to make the loudest noise
Smashing windows
cos big brother broke their toys
Daddy broke their hearts
Mummy couldn't play two parts
Too often left alone
Gameboys and a mobile phone
for company
A manufactured product
of our distant society
Another cold communication
in their faceless reality.

Influences: More inspiration than direct influence... As long as it moves me in some way or another, I'll give it the time and space in my heart then head...

So, in no particular order: Massive Attack, Portishead, Faithless, Tricky, Underworld, Leftfield, Royksopp, Dirty Vegas, Zero 7, Bonobo, Seal, Prince, Sting, David Bowie, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Jack Johnson, Kings of Convenience, Mike Oldfield, Enigma, Royksopp, Goldfrapp, Air, Afterlife, 4Hero, Basement Jaxx, Stanton Warriors, Simon & Garfunkel, Ray Charles, Annie Lennox, Bjork, Mozart...etc

The truth is... I favour no particular genre over another. If I feel it makes me want to dance, chill, contemplate, kick out, shout & scream or make Love to; that's good enough for me. It has to have a place in my life to be a part of it. I don't listen to a lot of music though as I get most out of making it and being a part of that creative process. I love silence just as much as I do filling the air with sound...

FULL CIRCLE

You're insane...
You expect a different outcome
You accept to do the same
You repeat...
You walk in circles
You fail to complete
You criticize...
You open wounds
You close your eyes
You pre-judge...
You're belligerent
You do not budge
You're too proud...
You hear no whisper
You shout too loud
You do not sing
You do not give
You do not bring
You deny...
You choose to ignore
You live the lie
You forget...
You diminish your Soul
You increase your debt
You fear...
You run to escape
You return here
You're not just clay
You shape the mould
You chip away
You create...
You conspire
You demonstrate

You're insane.

Sounds Like: Creativity in motion...

UNBORN

We were free from thinking
Breath not yet experienced

A nascent Soul
Fresh in fluid tranquility
Innocent of joy
Ignorant of fear
But we did feel
We did hear

A cosmic rEvolution
Three-quarters complete
Now we move to the call
of nature's heartbeat

Death of this safe world
A life in the new
Now we cry to return
to the home where we grew

We were free from thinking
Now we have breath.
