History
TopDJGear.com was launched shortly after the Winter Music Conference of 2002. It was founded by newly-minted DJs, an wall street investment banker and a seasoned veteran of the DJ and nightclub industries, who aspired to bring DJ culture to the mainstream via a user-inutitive and informative website and a streamlined web-based order flow processing system. A true passion for the culture and a staff comprised of young, creative and energetic local NY DJs and producers helped propel TopDJGear to its current position as a leader in the DJ Equipment industry.
Satellite Records was founded by Jonathan Kadish and Scott Richmond in 1993. Jonathan and Scott were very active and instrumental in the rave and electronic music culture of the early days and like TopDJgear built a strong brand through grass roots involvement in the DJ community. TopDJGear and Satellite had a strong business relationship as TopDJGear became its preferred supplier for DJ Gear.
In the summer of 2005, Satellite Records decided to shift its focus to digital download services and its and were moving out of their space in Downtown Manhattan. TopDJGear who was a sublease holder for the gear section of the store then decided it remain in the store and assumed the entire lease. As of March 2007, TopDJGear.com acquired rights and operational responsibilities of the SatelliteRecords.com website.
Jonathan and Scott are no longer involved in the operation of the store nor are they affiliated with TopDJGear but regularly contribute to our progress with their vast industry-knowledge, contacts and expertise. Like us, they are in it for the love of the music.
