Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

About Me

I have insomnia, don't do mornings, I love laughing, it's good for the soul. I'm a totally loyal friend (the things dogs teach you) I don't like plastic people, insincere people, users, leechers or inconsistent friends.
I like real people with good hearts who treat others with respect. I love helping people (until they start using you) but I'll help anyway, even if it's in the middle of the night.I've got a great sense of humor, can be sarcastic and be cynical at times and can be a smart-ass but am totally sincere.
I love studying psychology, especially Carl Jung and his theories on synchronicity. American History, Thomas Jefferson, music, photography, good books, hanging out with my dogs watching them play by the pool, getting silly with my other pets, nature and animals of all kinds, swimming, old movies, sunsets, DC...it's home and I miss it and spending time at the National Monuments, fighting for those who can't fight for themselves.

END DOLPHIN SLAUGHTER IN JAPAN!

During drive hunts, fishermen panic and confuse migrating pods of dolphins and other small whales with loud banging, then herd them, by the hundreds, into shallow coves, and then butcher them one by one.

Every year, some 20,000 small cetaceans of several species, some of which are endangered, including bottlenose dolphins, striped dolphins, spotted dolphins, Risso’s dolphins, short-finned pilot whales, white-sided dolphins, and false killer whales, are killed or taken in the drives, sometimes illegally.

The hunts have been universally condemned by marine experts around the world as brutal, inhumane, and unsustainable, but pleas to stop them have fallen on deaf ears.

The goal is one million signatures to help these gentle friends in the sea. You can sing the petition by going to this site. It only takes a minute but that minute can stop the slaughter, with your help.

Thanks so much!

It's that time of year...again...the 2007 Canadian Seal Hunt. March 29th is the start of this year's carnage and yes, I'm back on my soapbox again. I keep hoping, year after year, this horrific event will have finally ceased. It's time to utilize my piece of myspace for something that may make a difference, no matter how small, each signature helps.

The emotions I feel range from a sickness inside my heart to rage. I'm a pacifist by nature but when it comes to men with clubs slaughtering baby seals, I fear if I was there, I'd get the largest Fred Flintstone-style club available and go do some hunting of the seal hunters. Of course, I'd end up in a Canadian jail and hope somebody would bail me out (I'd pay you back ASAP) then turn around and go do it all again.

The truth is, I could never get close enough to witness the barbaric acts. Perhaps that makes me a coward but I cannot sit by while those, human or animal--anything or anybody that cannot defend themselves are being harmed or abused. I think that's when my level head loses all perspective and common sense, cases like those. Don't mess with my mom, children, pets or the elderly!

The pups are killed at an early age, in the name of fashion, when the truth is, because once they reach a certain age their fur will develop gray patches, at which point they are fair game for the hunters. NINETY-FIVE percent of the harp seals killed are between 2 weeks and 3 months old. The will be shot or clubbed to death...

If it takes wearing the pelt of a baby seal to make a person feel beautiful, they're sadly mistaken. That's vanity and materialism at it's worst. If they haven't grasped the concept that beauty comes from within, not by slapping fur on your back from your own insecurities, they better get used to being ugly from the inside out and no plastic surgeon who can carve that kind of ugly away. It's ugly to the bone. If looking into the eyes of a seal doesn't touch their hearts, nothing will.

Boycotting the purchase of Canadian seafood seems to get their attention by hitting them in the wallet, which sadly, seems more effective than pleas to stop the slaughter of the harp seals. Whatever means it takes to get Canada's Minister of International Trade, David Emerson's attention to make it stop, that's all that matters. Due to global warming, the seals are losing their habitat as it is, so give them a fighting chance for survival.

It's hard for me to ask anything from anyone. This is my annual plea to those who are kind enough to read my blog, to ask you to please take a minute to sign a petition or two. They're all ready to go, you don't have to do anything but fill in your info, hit send and help stop this annual blood bath. You may sign the petition by going to these links.

The wonderful people at the Humane Society are literally in the field every year and their petition to stop the seal hunt, as well as your pledge to agree to not buy Canadian seafood, is what they need. This is the link to sign the petition to stop the hunt:

https://community.hsus.org/campaign/trademinister_protectsea ls?rk=VpqGiHF1tAgcE

Their page is loaded with information at www.protectseals.org. Some too graphic for me to witness. My imagination is vivid enough, I don't need to see more red blood in the white snow.

The good people at Oceana have a strong petition as well:

http://takeaction.oceana.org/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=7027

If you Google the Canadian Seal Hunt, you will find many links to wonderful organizations trying to put a stop to it. If every person on myspace took one minute of their time, this could be over.

Thanks to those of you who took time to read this and take action. My heartfelt thanks to you on behalf of the seals...
