When you’ve got nothing to work with but honesty, you can’t go wrong. It’s that genuine humanity that has kept Brett Michael writing and composing for these past couple years. In that time, Brett has grown tremendously not only musically and professionally but also personally. Entering into an industry that was driven by bubble-gum power-pop, Brett displayed immediate apprehension and uncompromised resistance when it came to “fitting into a moldâ€. Though many of his inspirations sell out performances at Madison Square Garden, Brett opts for smaller, more personal spaces, packing in crowds at Manhattans Knitting Factory for acoustic sets.
With a dated album filled with records in which he felt weren’t a true reflection of the man he had become, Brett found himself internalizing new sounds, searching for creative stimulation, and discovering it in an eclectic bunch of both signed and unsigned singer/songwriters’ and composers.
The product, “Lessons In Procrastination: The EP†marks a turning point in Brett’s career, being his most raw, stripped-down, and vocally challenging album to date. With one listen of the first record, you will find a maturity that was not present in earlier works; a wisdom that could only have been acquired through time. Brett’s lyric’s, most of which are inspired by personal experience, are heart-felt and sincere. An ideal performance for Brett would include nothing but a piano, an acoustic guitar, a percussionist, and a microphone. Though he is without a doubt an entertainer at heart, this truthful and no holds-barred showmanship is what has gained Brett a legion of fans spanning accross the world from the Unites States even to parts of Germany.
In this time of mass-production, Brett Michael hopes to offer a softer, basic alternative. In Brett’s cover of the brilliant Scott Alan’s “Home†(a ballad from "Piece: The Musical", as performed by the incomparable Shoshana Bean), one can hear the power behind Brett's range as well as the unrefined emotion instilled within. Though only 22, Brett has delighted in his musical progression and continues to strive to move forward respectively. Stay tuned…
