Blige, Erykah Badu, John Legend, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Nas, Common, Mos Def, Bob Marley, Jill Scott, Floetry, Anthony Hamilton, The Jackson 5, Eric Benet, Sam Cooke, D'angelo, Bilal, Roy Ayers, Lenny Kravitz, Darnell Levine, Musiq Soulchild, Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Outkast, and so many more.
City of God, Crash, 25th Hour, Boyz N The Hood, Mo Better Blues, HavPlenty, Malcolm X, Restaurant, School Daze, Coming to America, Friday, too many to name right now. I've also been in a few independent movies that I know you never heard of: Dodge City (also starring Isaac Hayes...we won the Memphis Film Festival), CBC, Kaliyuga, Holy Promotion (student film), Random (student film), Alien Interrogation (student film)
I don't get to watch much TV these days but I love watching Ever Increasing Faith with Dr. Fred K.C. Price (My grandpop turned me on to Pastor Price when I was a kid. He has an incredible understanding of The Word), The King of Queens, Family Guy, Entourage, The Wire, Big Love, Good Times, VH1 Soul, BETJ Shorts, Roseanne, Girlfriends (yes, I said, Girlfriends...What? Got a problem with it? Lol), Soul Food, The Tavis Smiley Show, Grey's Anatomy, CNN, lots of stuff (some of it mindless I Love NY...I get sucked in sometimes) .. ..
I just recently finished reading "What I Know For Sure" by Tavis Smiley, "Letters to a Young Brotha" by Hill Harper," "Revolutionary Suicide" by Huey P. Newton, "Making Malcolm" by Michael Eric Dyson. Currently reading "Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison. I've read too many books to count but some of the highlights "Makes Me Wanna Holler" by Nathan McCall, "The Autobiography of Assata Shakur" by Assata Shakur, "The Pact" by the Three Doctors, "Mercy Mercy Me" by Michael Eric Dyson, "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren (this book is really puts things into proper perspective), "Why I Love Black Women" by Michael Eric Dyson. I'm really ashamed to admit that I started "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" years ago but I haven't finished it (blame it on the movie).
Jesus Christ, my grandparents John Ambrose & Willie Dee Whitsell and Bertha Beatrice Hunter, my mother Wanda Whitsell Thompson, Martin Luther King, Jr. , El-Hajj Malik El Shabazz (Malcolm X), Dr. Fred K.C. Price, Gordon Parks, Melvin Van Peebles, Paul Robeson, Ossie Davis, acting-wise (gotta go w/ Angela Bassett and Jeffrey Wright), musically (Lauryn Hill, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway)
