I am here for Networking

About Me

Greetings Bredren and Sistren. Welcome to "my space." For those of you who don't know me, let me give you the rundown: I am a GOD-fearing, family-oriented, hardworking, black man who strives everyday to fulfill his DESTINY. I use my God-given talent and intelligence to praise GOD and uplift my family and community. I want to touch all those with ears to hear and hearts to receive. Through my endeavors (rather artistic, business, social or otherwise), I try to inject my own personal brand of positivity into the universe. I am currently employed as a Residential Coordinator for Community Alternatives. I am a former Cultural Arts Specialist for Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation were I served as the artistic director for the Patterson Park Ensemble Players. I am the assistant artistic director for Dream 7 Theatre Productions and co-founder/co-editor-in-chief of U.N.I.Q.U.E. Magazine. I am a co-founder/organizer of the annual Shades of Black Theatre Festival and owner of a theatre production company called The Destiny Theatre Experience. In addition, I am a theatre teaching artist for the YMCA's ARTembrA.S.E. Program. I am also a writer, actor, director, producer, spoken word artist, journalist, artist manager, social activist, budding genealogist, humble servant, seeker of knowledge, and many of other things. All of these titles are important to me, not for the sake of vanity or prestige, but because I feel that they are manifestations of my commitment to God, hard work, dedication, and determination to live outside of physical, mental, spiritual, social, financial, and psychological boxes. However, none of the aforementioned titles even compare to that of the devoted FATHER that I am to my beautiful little princess, Miss Destiny Joanna Skye Whitsell. Fatherhood is simply amazing. I am deeply honored and humbled by the great responsibility GOD has placed upon me. It will indeed be the biggest and greatest thing I've ever done. I know that fatherhood is my birthright - a divine appointment. Though it's proving to having its up and downs, I am loving my journey through fatherhood. I'm so blessed that God picked me to be Destiny's dad.At the end of the day, I'm just me, nothing more and nothing less. I have my strengths and I have my weaknesses. I walk in confidence sometimes, but sometimes I'm insecure. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. Sometimes I'm right and sometimes I'm dead wrong. I'm no better than any other person on this planet, and I know that. I am humble, yet powerful. I am many things. There are many things that I am not. I am a work in progress. My granddaddy told me I was a KING. I've been told that I'm argumentive, though I like to call it passion. I'm Johnny and Willie Dee's grandson. I am a child of GOD. I am that skinny bowlegged kid from Madisonville, Kentucky. I am who I am. At the end of the day, I'm simply Demerrius La-Shawn Whitsell.
