Influences: Restless? Hex is THE album to listen to at night. It allows thoughts to drift into your mind, and there is time to contemplate the day you've had. The album seems to build up to the centre and then lets you down. The climax is probably 'Fingerspit'. You can sense the frustration in this song, as it is trying to break out of the album. Each of the track's complement each other creating a landscape not unlike the cover art... a setting sun over a surreal landscape... you can almost feel this from the music.
Breathtaking.
Feeling tired? Why not go to bed and listen to this while you doze in and out of reality. An adventure through ambiance and serenity, Hex achieves exactly what it set out to do by creating a relaxing, warm mood that will drift you in and out of consciousness, slowly, without haste. From the opening track it is clear that Bark Psychosis are an elegant, developed band who know exactly what they want to create. Featuring unobtrusive vocals, an array of instruments and mysterious sounds, Hex is a wonderful listen when all you want is some peace and quiet.
Sounds Like: Bark Psychosis, creators of Post-Rock, and among the best in the genre. When the members were only about 14, they took from experimental innovators such as Sonic Youth and Joy Division, they soon created a revolution with their ambient soundscapes and textured rock, spawning countless bands of similar nature.
Like Hex, Dustsucker sounds utterly unique, eschewing even the broadest classification. Smitten with texture, space, and silence, a seamless blend of acoustic instrumentation and electronic processing on which its piecemeal compositions generate massive momentum within predominantly slothful tempos.
-Pitchfork review-
A guitar groans and signals the birth of a trumpet, slowly melting into gaseous synths and a whiff of melodica; it comes in two parts like The Isley Brothers through the looking glass.
Agonised, fearful, compelling, beautiful and measured with infinite precision and chaos, Codename:Dustsucker is close to miraculous.
