I set up Dead Earnest initially to release a CD by the band Krel and nothing more, but it soon became a home for CD's that other labels wouldn't have dared put out. I then began to discover the wealth of musical talent in the Dundee area, and became aware of the many bands trying to promote themselves with varying degrees of success. To draw people's attention to these bands I began reviewing a number of gigs which are now featured on the Dead Earnest website.
As time went on, more and more talent emerged, and the website has now become a place whereby the best bands and artists with the greatest potential (in my opinion) can be noticed, promoted and featured in what I call the "Dundee Scene" or the "Dundee Collective" - a portal through which the world out there can see the incredible bands and artists that are part of Dundee's musical expanse.
From putting gigs on for bands, to promoting and featuring them on radio, and hopefully releasing CD's in the future, it's a strictly a non-profit making venture on my part to get the Dundee Scene noticed and help the bands with their first foothold on the ladder to success.
A gig or CD review could be just the catalyst a band needs to take themselves more seriously, then the job is done. If anything I do gets a band the attention of a label or promotor who can take them on to the next level, the job is done.
It's not about me - it's about the music. But the music needs your support - the live music scene in Dundee, needs your support.
Unfamiliar with the bands? - then look at the Dead Earnest website and it'll all become a whole lot clearer.....
I'm also a joint partner in "Mermaid Rock Promotions" a new live music venture based in Dundee.
