I am here for Friends

About Me

In the summer of 1977 I bought my first three 45s, they were "Something Better Change" / "Straighten Out" by the Stranglers, "Pretty Vacant" by the Sex Pistols and "Roadrunner" by Jonathan Richman. I wasn't quite 13 years old yet and I had already found the musical promised land! Some of the concerts that I saw in the UK back in the day include the Clash, the Stranglers, the Damned, Bauhaus, Fad Gadget, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Captain Sensible, We've Got A Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It, Eddie and the Hot Rods, the Flowerpot Men (not the 60s band), Boy's Own, Yazoo, Blancmange, Positive Noise, Depeche Mode, U2.
Somewhere around 1981 or so, I joined up with the crew of the pirate radio station "South London Radio" as a DJ, which broadcast on Saturday evenings on 92.5 FM. My on-air radio name was "Rob Andrews". Drop me a line if you used to listen to SLR around that time. Other DJs at that time included John Dawson, Nigel Grant and Bill Myers.
In the summer of 1988 I left the UK and headed across the ocean to Chicago where I've been ever since. My concert going didn't stop over here either, I managed to take in shows by the likes of Bauhaus, the Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Creatures, Sisters of Mercy, the Mission, Chris and Cosey (from Throbbing Gristle), the Vibrators, UK Subs, Stray Cats, Gary Numan, Lene Lovich, David Sylvian & Robert Fripp, Billy Connolly, Material Issue, the Damned, the Cure.
I quickly got involved with the local music scene here. I started off by managing an alternative band called Danny Says and then moved onto manage a rockabilly band called The Moondogs. Thru working with the Moondogs, I got heavily involved with the local rockabilly scene where I organized many cool shows, featuring acts like Ronnie Dawson, Johnny Carroll, Hayden Thompson, Billy Lee Riley, the Big Six, the Frantic Flattops, etc. My website from this era is Rockabilly Central .
I dropped out of the music scene as 1999 drew to a close. In 2000 I started the JP1 group, which is an internet group for people who are hacing their universal remote controls. My website for this is hifi-remote.com .
In 1995 I married Lisa, who used to be the bass player for Get Smart! . She's also played for Dolly Varden , Nora O'Connor , The Honeybees and she's currently with Jeanie B and the Jelly Beans .
I now have two wonderful kids, both boys. Sean is 10 and Casey is 7.
Beautiful Books
Check out my wife Lisa playing with our neighbor Robbie Fulks. They're doing a re-make of Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" called "Beautiful Books". That's Casey bopping around in the front.
