From Manifesto magazine................It could be argued that cover bands have the hardest job of all in the fact they have to try and literally live up to legends they impersonate. The Next Pistols stick their fingers up to the challenge and perfectly pull off the raw punk edge of our national treasures, The Sex Pistols. Within seconds you know they have sussed it. It's actually hard to believe that it ISN'T Johnny Rotten doing vocals. The Next Pistols encapsulate the energy and stripped down punk essence of the Sex Pistols and deliver it with aggression and faultless technique. NC.--------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ -----------It all started in 1977 on the Queens Silver Jubilee I was 12 years old living on a council housing estate in Seaham in Co/Durham. My first memory of that day was the bunting strung across the street and the long table stretched out across the road it seamned to go on for ever. I remember it been coverd with cups of orange juices and sandwiches and cakes. Everyone wearing union jack hats and having agood time and games played by parents as well as the kids. The music playing from someones old record player droned on and on, spitting out the same old 70s crap like the baycity rollers and shawaddywaddy. I'd heard of the sex Pistols mainly from others talking about them and had seen older boys dressed in punk style clothes, spiky hair chains wrapped around their necks, safety pins keeping clothes together and stuck into their shoes. I remember thinking that I would like to look like that. It was a long day the party continued well into the evening when I remember going into the house and the news being on the T.V. showing The Sex Pistols on a boat going up the River Thames singing God save the Queen. My thoughts were WOW I had never seen anything like this before, the hairs on my arms stood up i felt sheer excitement at what I was seeing and hearing, the blistering sounds of Steve Jones guitar and Johnny Rotten's voice screeching out. That was it I was hooked I was going to be a Punk, I went directly to my mams sewing box and took out every safety pin in there I grabbed my baseball boots and pinned every single one to them. Just then I remember very clearly my mam walking through the door looking horrifed, I proudly told my mam I was now a punk much to her dismay. It was shorly after this day that I discovered that John Peel was playing punk on his radio 1 show I remember it being late as my mam would be shouting at me to turn it off as I should be asleep. The more I heard the more excited I became I was desperate to have my own record but money was tight . It was months, probably nearly a year later after doing lots of saving I had managed to save enough money to buy my first LP Never Mind The Bollocks Heres The Sex Pistols. Major arguments would break out inthe house with both mam and Dad threatening to take it fom me unless I turned it down, but I took little or no notice and played it as loud asI could.I played it constantly for about 4 years, only stopping really because it was so worn out and Punk had fizzled out. My mam finally thinking thank God he's grown out of it!!! Little did she know that thirty years later at the age of 43 a truck driver, living with my partner Jackie, and a father of two beautiful daughters Lauren 16 and Eden 6 that my ring tone is God save the Queen, I have a tattoo on my right arm of Jamie Reid's art work which was the cover of the record showing theQueen's head with the words God save the Queen and The Sex pistols written across her face. Could that be all! well no, I am the singer of a Sex pistlos cover band by the name of the Next Pistols, we play across the North East pubs and Clubs. The initial effects of hearing that song 30 years ago still has the same effect on me today I think at times that I am back to where it all started, I've gone full circle. God save the Queen. As read By Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio2, 25th may 2007........................................................ ....
