The band formed while at University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS in 1980. In 1981 Talk Talk magazine released their first 45 ("Numbers and Colours" / "Ankle Deep In Mud") and a 4-song EP ("Words Move") on their own Syntax record label. They also contributed 5 songs to the first "Fresh Sounds From Middle America" cassette compilation (also thru Talk Talk).
In 1982 they relocated to Chicago, IL. The group signed to Fever Records (an independent label in Philadelphia, PA) and released their first album, "Action Reaction" in 1984 and another 45 (live "Back Into The Future" / "World Without End" - both live at CBGBs).
For the band's second album, Fever Records arranged a pressing and distribution deal with Enigma Records in Los Angeles, CA. "Swimming With Sharks" was released in 1986 on Enigma's "Restless Records" boutique label. The band disbanded in 1990.
"The music that was on American radio and in the public consciousness in the late 70s and early 80s just wasn't what was in our heads. We were too nervous, too excited and too creative to let Foreigner and Journey be our musical wallpaper. I didn't know what David Byrne was going on about in 'Psycho Killer', but I knew that it was exactly what I wanted to hear. The handful of American (and scores of British) acts that were taking chances at the time were what we lived for. And we were determined to further the cause and fill the air with something exciting. Also, going to college in the middle of Kansas had a way of making you want to do the musical equivalent of farting in church."
