Danny Sumbler, Mr.Golden tonsils as many call him, was born in Brighton on the south coast of old Albion.
With more than 200 songs written in the last few years, Danny stays as prolific,positive and wise as ever.Check out the 'Look upon your lives' and 'something to say' video's and you'll find a great balance of humour, compassion, passion and depth, not only in the lyrics, but also within the fibre's of that beautiful voice.
Danny has had Tourettes Syndrome since the age of seven, and continues relentlessly to highlight it's advantages, but is also careful to remember the importance in understanding how destructive it can be, particularly for the child sufferer who is so often unfairly misunderstood. Always staying positive and always able to laugh at it's obsurdity, whilst seeing it's many colours and strange beauty,he is also hoping to shatter a few myths surrounding Tourettes Syndrome. In one interview Danny says this: "You know, it's so typical of the media today, due to their sensationalism and exploitation for tv ratings etc.( The only exception in my heart being a programme called 'Mad but glad,' so I would eagerly suggest tracking it down for those who know little or haven't seen it.)Because of the way it's been portrayed on the television, the majority now think that to have tourettes you must swear uncontrollably. Now, I am not for one moment suggesting that this side of tourettes, medically termed coprolalia, is not an extremely debilitating part of the condition if one has it. But the truth is, amongst Tourettes sufferers, coprolalia in that magnitude only affects a minority of Tourettian souls.That, unfortunately, can leave many people not believing myself, and many others, that we actually have Tourettes Syndrome. The fact is that there are many other symptoms, physically and mentally, and they manifest in lesser or greater degree from person to person. It is not consistent, in fact very irrational, the only consistency being the symptoms for diagnosis. Many who have Tourettes, and the reasons unbeknownst to most, have a particularly talented and creative side. They are some of the brightest, most quick witted, intelligent and charming people you will encounter if you are lucky enough to, and believe me they will charm you! If anything, all I want to do is stay true to those positive sides of which it has many. As debilitating and exhausting as it can be sometimes, I will always remember that the sunshine creates the shadows, and continue to spread this message for all who have it and to all who don't. I suggest all who don't go read about it....you may just find, in varying degree just like life, that we'll see a little of ourselves in each other...."
He also has this to say."I see quite clearly my Tourettes as being a contributor to my creativity, but not the master of it. In many ways, what I am trying to say, is that although Tourettes is more than apparent, it is not totally responsible for creating the person themselves.I have Tourettes, but Tourettes is not just who I am. I am Danny Sumbler also. In such a way, I am bringing the so called 'normal' thinking person into my world and hoping they realise, that in many ways, I am not much different to you."
