Johnny Street and Friends

About Me

John has been writing, recording and performing music for longer than he'd care to admit! He started out in Richmond, VA with bands such as 'The Inaccurates', 'Johnny Street and the Offbeats', 'Twitch', 'Monday Week' and 'The Bopcats', and even played drums once for Bo Diddley. After moving to Los Angeles, he continued working with longtime collaborator 'Mrs. Nay', began writing and recording with Kelley Ryan (AstroPuppees), and later formed the band 'Speedy, Squeaky, and Holmes'. John spent 16 years working in the music industry (8 years with Bug Music and 8 years with MCA/Universal) while playing the occasional gig in and around LA at such clubs as Madame Wongs, 8121, Coconut Teaszer, Al's Bar, Rajis, Club Lingerie, and The Roxy, among others. For the last several years he has continued writing and recording songs, collaborating whenever possible, and playing the occasional solo acoustic show. 'The Washoe Project' is a collection of some of the songs John's recorded over the years (with a lot of help from his friends!), and is available on CD by request. Oh, and if you're wondering where the name comes from, Washoe was a chimpanzee fluent in American Sign Language. Read 'Next of Kin' by Roger Fouts for more about her.
