Tony Low, a founding member of New York’s renowned garage-psychedelic pop band The Cheepskates, has been writing and recording his songs since the early 1980’s. His songs definitely capture a timeless spirit which most everyone can relate to and each tune stands on its own.The Cheepskates recorded and released several acclaimed albums from 1984 through 1991. The band was included in the fourth edition of the Trouser Press Record Guide, where rock journalist Dave Sprague called their music “…a timeless pleasure.â€In 2000, Tony’s first disc, Dandelion in the Year of the Rooster was released. The six-song EP featured songs about time travel, lost love, and hope. “This Country Needs a War,†Tony’s answer to the infamous school shootings of the day now seems oddly prophetic in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy.A second album, Sleight Of Hand, was released in 2002. Included were standouts such as “Girl,†“Rat Behind the Wall,†“Another Suit,†and “Rev†(which is also a featured tune on the International Pop Overthrow Vol. 5 compilation on Not Lame Records).Tony’s newest album, Time Across the Page, features twelve original tracks, including a remake of “Where Are You Nowâ€, which was featured on The Cheepskates’ 1987 album, Remember. Time Across the Page is a sonic adventure through life’s searching for answers, not only for love, but also figuring out who you are and where you’re supposed to be.There’s something for just about everyone on this disc, from the jangle pop of “One Fine Day†and “Where Are You Nowâ€, to the more delicate folk-rock of “Spirals†and “All is Coming†to the pop-grunge of “Not the Lucky Onesâ€. The listener will be immersed in the journey, ending off with the gorgeous “Brave Michaelâ€, a personal hymn which Brian Wilson would be proud of!Time Across the Page definitely leaves Tony’s footprints in the sand of the pop music world. Take a listen and hear for yourself!
