About Me

Shortly after the birth of our first child I decided it was time to buy a guitar. The timing might seem odd, but it was apparent to me that I needed a new form of expression to capture some of the feelings brought on by family life. Believe it or not, I found the guitar in a local hardware store. I returned home with the door knob I needed and a used Epiphone guitar that I couldn’t resist. The door knob is probably long gone, but the guitar remains and continues to this day to open doors for me.

It didn’t take long to learn to play some simple folk melodies and from there it was only a matter of time until my own chord patterns and lyrics came together to form a few songs. I didn’t write often, but over the course of raising six children there were many times when I was grateful for the ability to capture in song what I was feeling inside. Others might have the facility to communicate such things in other forms, but for me the guitar enabled a voice that would otherwise not exist.

Our six children are all on their own now, but the songs written over the course of the past thirty years are still with me. And because of that, the memories are never very far away. All I have to do is pull out the hardware store guitar and it reliably opens those doors again. It’s true that this collection of songs was inspired by my own wife and children, but I suspect the emotional landscape they explore is quite universal. That’s why I’m hopeful that Song Time Again might open a few doors for you too.
