Having grown up in Galway city, Ireland, Katie is steeped in the ancient traditions of Celtic music and sings in traditional “sean nós” gaelic singing. After spending a year studying voice at Berklee College of Music, she moved to Tufts University and picked up a degree in Sociology and a new band and became part of the Boston Music Scene. She was awarded a visa for artist of outstanding ability thus she became a fulltime musician. Her journey to America provided inspiration while the supportive community helped Katie become a standout in the Boston songwriter community. ____________________________________________________________ ______ THE ALBUM: I KNOW YOU KNOW Earmarked as the one to watch in 2007, I know you know is Katie McD’s debut offering embodied with the blueprint of a wholesome songwriter, with a lovely infectious sound that is pleasing to the ear and peaceful to the heart, but totally lacking the stigma of mind-numbing easy listening...for she packs a much deeper message and palpable intelligence into the thought-provoking lyrics, captivating orchestrations and passionate vocalizations. www.katiemcdgirl.com ____________________________________________________________ THE HUMAN SIDE: As a kid, Katie McD used to sing at the top of her lungs in school only to find out one day she sang completely out of tune!! She stuck her fingers in her ears after hearing toe school children giving out about her and finally learnt how to sing. Another time her dad found her in the sitting room with a tablecloth over her head and swinging his head round the door he asked who was singing she said it was the radio. She learnt the piano but they couldnt afford one so she asked for a keyboard thing she saw on the TV and her mother made her a keyboard but she cried all night because it wouldnt play it could have something to do with the fact it was made of cardboard!!! ___________________________________________________________ UNITED NATIONS & SYMPHONY HALL: Katie McD made a guest appearance as a soloist at a World Class evening -the United Nation's Consul Gala Ball at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston on April 2006 and at Symphony Hall on November 2005 with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland and Irelands leading tenor, Emanuel Lawlor. ___________________________________________________________ ON THE RADIO: Her debut CD has been played on 180 college stations nationwide. The Phonenix Magazine recently gave Katie McD a nice mention..... ____________________________________________________________ THE PRESS: “Kate is a pillar of the Irish music scene, her music a part of the ever-flowing stream of Irish musicians that have kept America’s Irish cultural life alive for decades. She is wellpoised to be a central character in the book that may someday be written about today’s era of post-“Celtic Tiger,” post- “European Community” immigrant music.Kate McDonnell’s music represents a new wave of Irish artist who remain true to their roots yet explore the reaches of Irish creativity. While many before her have contented themselves to sing the ages-old Irish folk songs and ballads, Katie’s work takes Irish musicianship to a new level, creating what may become classics in songs that tell the story of today’s immigrant experience in the United States – indeed, that experience has become the American experience. Her work is the reflection of the true Irish creative character. I have seen her perform on numerous occasions and her presentation bursts with talent and energy that are both inspirational and entertaining to her audiences.”-Susan Gedutis Lindsay, music writer for the Boston Irish Reporter and author of See you at the Hall: Boston’s Golden Era of Irish Music and Dance. ____________________________________________________________ ______ "It is tapestry of musical textures blending Celtic, country and folk voices. It has a strikingly original feel and journeys through diverse musical styles and traditions with surprising and seductive sensuality. It crosses boundaries few artists successfully cross. From the airy light of Dana to the dark heart of Hitman, it will snap your head around. Hold onto your hat and listen closely..."The Irish Emigrant ____________________________________________________________ TELL US WHAT YOU THINK AND TELL US ABOUT YOU: Leave us a COMMENT and we PROMISE we will reciprocate!!
