With a powerhouse voice and dynamic stage presence appeal, DENISE DE LA CRUZ has fused segments of Reggae, R&B and Soul to create her own style self declared REGGAE SOUL. This vocal powerhouse has managed to invoke the imagination of audiences with her soulfully catchy hooks that leave listeners immediately under a spell of good vibes. With straight forward messages in her original compositions like, “YO SOY DE BORINQUEN,”ASSESS PROGRESS”, “FALLING(I KEEP)” and “MAMA AFRICA (BORINQUEN ME LLAMA)”, this cantante has given audiences a real breath of fresh air.De La Cruz was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico (La Isla de Borinquen), migrated to New York and grew up in a musical family surrounded by her Father’s Salsa orquestra, her Mother’s lullabies, her Church Choir and Church Musical Theatre Group. She has been increasingly honing her craft ever since. In the last few years she's managed to create a buzz in the most critical of environments: her hometown of New York City. Denise has graced NYC stages like SOB’s, NELL’S, CBGB’s, KNITTING FACTORY, TRIBECA, ROCK CLUB, PLANET HOLLYWOOD and THE BLUE NOTE.Denise toured the European Jazz Fesitivals in July 2003 with Horacio EL NEGRO Hernandez and Robby Ameen (billed with artists like SONNY ROLLINS, CHICK CORREA, ELVIN JONES, GILBERTO GIL, KOOl & THE GANG, THE EARTH WIND & FIRE EXPERIENCE among many more), she also performed at the Orvieto Winter Jazz Festival in Jan 2004. In July 2004 De La Cruz performed at the HEINEKEN HOUSE PARTY/MTV 2 Concert, where she shared the stage with BEENIE MAN, BLACK TWANG, INDIA ARIE, JERMAINE DUPRI, PITBULL, BONECRUSHER, RIC ROC, SASHA, KEVIN ANTHONY, SPRAGGA BENZ, COURTNEY JOHN, BONE CRUSHER, and the ROOTS.In January 2007, Denise performed at the MONTEGO BAY CORAL CLIFF and the AIR JAMAICA JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL billed with JDSMOOTHE, MICHAEL BOLTON, ROY YOUNG, MAXI PRIEST, SHAGGY, ANTHONY HAMILTON to name a few. Theater Credits: De La Cruz has been billed in Musical Theatre Workshops/ Readings such as DESTINATION AMERICA: AN IMMIGRANT EXPERIENCE, AMAZULU: DANCE LIKE A WEAPON, THE LAST WORD and was cast for a limited run in “SLANGUAGE”, The Universes smash hit musical. Film Credits: In 2006, De La Cruz was featured in a film/Documentary, THE ART OF LOVE & STRUGGLE, with EYES INFINITE FILMS. A film of passion that profiles twelve amazing women.
