About Me

(Click above to visit our official website...)
ABOUT:
Sixpeopleaway is the musical project of Alistair Merrick (vocals/guitar) and close friend and long time musical collaborator Robert Hitchen (bass/backing vocals).
Together they produce angular acoustic guitar and vocal-led songs with laptop-generated beats and sounds.

Initially persuaded into playing live and posting songs on the internet by insistent friends, sixpeopleaway’s unique sound and impressive live shows have been attracting a growing number of keen listeners. This interest brought sixpeopleaway to the attention of a number of influential names in Scottish music, earning them press attention, radio play and, through New Found Sound, a development deal comprising of recording time, advertising and promotion.
King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut awarded them the Your Sound Artist of the Month Award in November 2006, bringing them to the attention of XFM Scotland’s Jim Gellatly, host of the station’s new music show, X-posure. Having featured in the show’s MySpace Cadet competition, winning their heat with 51% of the vote, they have continued to receive strong support and airplay from XFM, and were featured as one of Jim Gellatly’s top tips for 2007.
So far in 2007, sixpeopleaway have been featured on both BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio One Scotland by DJ Vic Galloway, on national BBC Radio One by Huw Stephens, reached the final 48 bands of T-Break 2007, played their first Festivals appearing both in the Solus Tent at this years Wickerman Festival and on the Your Sound Bandstand at Connect and were XFM Scotlands X-Posure Showcase band for the week beginning 23rd of July.
Alistair and Robert are currently working on new material, having already finished writing their forthcoming second EP. The debut CD ‘sixpeopleaway’, was released on the 30th of July having already been awarded Single Of The Fortnight in The List and Single Of The Week by Jim Gellatly on his X-Posure show. It is currently available in stores, online, as a download via iTunes and other digital services, as well as at gigs and through their online music store (accessible via their MySpace page)

"sixpeopleaway is an incredible talent, on the verge of huge acclaim...Pure genius...everything I've ever said about the band (one of my 10 tips for 2007) is totally justified… and more. With just acoustic guitar, bass, vocals and a laptop, they make the most beautiful acoustic electronica..."
("TOP TEN FOR 2007", SINGLE OF THE WEEK, X-POSURE SHOWCASE)
JIM GELLATLY, XFM

“The outfit make beautiful, beat-fuelled acoustic tracks which stick out like a sore thumb from the current crop of supermarket indie-touting wannabes and are all the better for it… 'Providence' builds from stunningly beautiful vocals and clipped beats to a sumptuous string-tinged masterpiece… Genuinely heartfelt and utterly inventive - you can't ask for much more than that... "
(5/5, SINGLE OF THE FORTNIGHT)
THE LIST

"Sixpeopleaway’s fractured on-the-edge songwriting treads that line between alternative and commercial with ease. With a stirring, stunning voice Alistair Merrick is halfway there but it’s his knack for a tune and his genuinely original electronic arrangements (aided and abetted by Robert Hitchen) that set him aside from the rest of the singer-songwriter crew..."
STUART MCHUGH - EDITOR - iS THIS MUSIC?
"We were blown away. Forget any singer-songwriter preconceived ideas. Alistair has produced very much his own sound...Excellent songs and fresh delivery...confidence and obvious future potential"
MUSIC NEWS SCOTLAND
"At once phenomenally powerful and utterly fragile, sixpeopleaway's distinctive guitar/bass/beats set-up sees an exciting creative force emerging from Glasgow. Sky-scraping melodies delivered by a passionate, almost unworldly voice unafraid of singing from the heart, this is highly crafted songwriting at its finest; provocative, inspiring and nothing less than absolutely beautiful."
SCOTCAMPUS
"Working in a brutal genre, nice to see a fresh delivery...would love to see (sixpeopleaway) again..."
ALEC DOWNIE - NEMIS
"...a singer/songwriter with bite..."
THE SKINNY
"...spiky, angular, delicate and sometimes breathtaking... sharper, tougher and better observed than the Blunts and Morrisons of this world..."
