About Me

Online Calendar by Spongecell

I've DJs underground sounds since some time in the mid-90s. I spin a healthy cross-section of electro, ebm, house, electroclash, goth, industrial, and new wave, because in Houston, the 80s will never die.

I've DJd underground sounds in Houston: weekly at Havok , monthly at Underworld (at Numbers ), and at random other gigs around town going all the way back to the Cellar. In DC I was a resident at the weekly Tomb and guest DJ at Midnight.

My roots were in hard rock, blues, and goth, and I love noise. When I catch a Side Room gig, or something more loungey, the more I've had to drink, the more goth rock and Sonic Youth I'll play. That's not a bad thing.

I've had college radio shows in both Houston ( KTRU ) and Austin ( KVRX ) and have been a resident at clubs in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Washington, DC since I started DJing (somewhere around 1994).

My Interests

Music:

I like a little of everything but I tend to focus a few genres: electro, EBM, goth rock, darkwave, synthpop.

Current favourites: Tiga, Black Strobe, Presets, Stromkern, Retrosic, Celluloide, Hong Kong Counterfeit, Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip, Simian Mobile Disco, New Young Pony Club, Technoir.

Lifetime favourites include: Jesus and Mary Chain, Alien Sex Fiend, Tones on Tail, Guns N' Roses, Sisters of Mercy, Frontline Assembly, Ministry, X Marks the Pedwalks (and anything else by Sevren Ni-arb), Lights of Euphoria, In Strict Confidence, Belly, Interpol.

I have a penchant for crusty old goth rock: Skeletal Family, Clair Obscur, March Violets, Siglo XX, Merry Thoughts, Siouxsie, Play Dead, Rosetta Stone, Theatre of Hate, Bauhaus, Danse Society, Zero le Creche, Virgin Prunes, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.

I also have a serious weakness for old, 80s/90s electro and ebm: Cassandra Complex, the Klinik, Vomito Negro, Cabarate Voltaire, Clock DVA, Meat Beat Manifesto, Nitzer Ebb, Invincible Limits, the Fair Sex.

Movies:

The Aliens trilogy, Bladerunner, Amelie, City of Lost Children, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Lost in Translation.

Television:

Law and Order: SVU, House, Simpsons, Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Used to love King of the Hill, King of Queens. Metalocalypse. Californication. Ghost Hunters.

Books:

Poe used to be so cool, but he's really not that great a writer. Byron is my favourite poet, and Mary Shelley, my favourite novelist. Gabriel Garcia Marquez makes me want to give up writing and donate my body to science... or rot.

Heroes:

Sometimes I look around and I can't stand any of you heaving sacks of meat, but every once in a while, I'm utterly amazed at how beautiful you all are.
