Biography:
Hailing from the Windy City and seasoned in the heart of Hollywood, DJ Spryte can make any crowd get up and dance. As a kid in the early 90’s, Spryte first discovered his love of music through the local B-Boy culture, as he was the founding member of the world-renowned Chicago Tribe crew. Soon after, he found himself studying the turntables, and “DJ Kid Spriite” was born. Eventually, there wasn’t a Chicago underground hip-hop event that didn’t showcase Spryte on the 1’s and 2’s. Around this time, he joined forces with DJ’s Intel, Adept and Whut to form the original Platter Pirates DJ Crew. When Spryte wasn’t busy spinning, he began to practice the art of turntablism, with his sights set on eventually competing in the national DMC championships. In the meantime, Spryte began entering countless DJ competitions, first local, then eventually traveling to different cities to claim his victories. After entering well over 50 DJ battles, he had managed to claim the winning title on nearly every competition he entered. His most prized accomplishment came in 2001, when he won the World I.T.F Scratching competition. Soon after, Spryte’s dream of competing in the DMC finals came true, as he battled and beat out many other DJ’s in the 2002 Denver DMC regional. Hosted by the late great Jam Master Jay, the 2002 DMC finals included heavyweights from all over the U.S, and had one of the greatest line-ups in DMC history. That year DJ Spryte, DJ Kico, DJ Vajra, DJ Enferno, DJ Perseus, DJ Precision, DJ Boogie Blind, DJ Scene and others battled it out at the Roxy in NYC.
Soon after his last great battle, Spryte began to set his sights back to his love of spinning music for the crowds. Since this is how his original torch was lit in the early 90’s, it was only fitting that he come full circle. Around this time, Spryte uprooted himself from the Chi and firmly planted his roots in Los Angeles. Being a film/television editor by trade, the west coast felt like a sure fit.
Spryte’s move from vinyl to Serato in 2005 changed the equation drastically. With the Mash-Up trend in full swing in early 2006, Spryte became one of the original West Coast DJ’s featured on CrooklynClan.net, and his remixes were soon heard in some of the hottest clubs all over the U.S as well the airwaves in Chicago and Los Angeles. Spryte credits the Crooklyn Clan website for introducing him to some of the west coast’s most respected DJ’s. Local promoters began to take notice, and Spryte began playing at some of Hollywood’s newest hotspots. He continued his army of one hustle and soon began booking clubs all over the US. From LA to NY, Spryte has rocked the stages of some of the hottest clubs in America. His Chicago inspired house-heavy sets and turntablism skills are all part of his unique ability at giving crowds a fist-pumping experience. So lets ggoooooo!!!
