Our Life As Spoiled, Well-Loved Small Pets

About Me

WELCOME TO
We're a family of small friends that live in a paradise specially designed to spoil us! Even though there are so many of us here, we are pets only. Our owners are not breeders, a rescue or a shelter. Our owners are simply animal lovers that share their home with a lot of small pets.WE ARE: RATS
MICE
HAMSTERS
GERBILS

CAVIES
WE ARE PLEASED TO MEET YOU!

A PEEK AT OUR HOMES:
The colorful tubed habitats are for the mice: HABITATS: Currently, there are over 30 habitats at Rodent Paradise and more are always being added regularly. The colorful cages with all the tubes that you see are for us lucky mice. There are a multitudes of cages interconnected to form massive homes for us. We, the hamsters, have large guinea-pig sized habitats. We, the gerbils live in a 75 gallon burrowing tank topped with 2 wire cages. We, the rats live in extremely large wire habitats but we spend a lot of our time free-roaming in a safe room so it hardly feels like we're caged at all. We, the degus live in a closed-top, multi-level Cube & Coroplast style habitat. Our owners believe that giving animals plenty of room to live in is one of those most important things they can do. Providing us with a lot of room to explore and toys to play with increases our overall happiness, health, activity level and has effects a variety of other factors. It helps that our owners love assembling and building luxurious pet enclosures. They are always adding more cages, tanks, toys and tubes, so keep checking back for new additions! If you have any new habitat ideas - please let us know! Our cages are disassembled and cleaned every 6-10 days, whereupon the layout of mice tubing changes. We've dedicated an entry in our blog to detail the cleaning process because it's what people ask us about the most. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: There are 3 entire rooms of the house dedicated to Rodent Paradise. Our owners don't believe we should all live in the same area because it would be too stressful on us. Naturally, different species and genders are NOT mixed in the same spaces. We certainly don't need any hanky panky going on here! Our rooms are comfortable. All of our rooms have air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter. We all have access to windows, fresh air and natural light. There are no loud noises, televisions or radios used in our rooms. Safe areas for us to free roam have been set up in every room. WHAT WE EAT: We like to eat! There are a lot of us and our diets are all very, very different. Store-bought food is used as part of the base diet; quality block for the rats, hamsters, mice and gerbils being the preferred choice. The guinea pigs receive high quality pellets and fresh vegetables. The degus get a specialty degu diet from Europe which is the best we've found. Degu food can be hard to find so ask us about it if you need some. The mice and hamsters also get healthy home baked goods, freshly prepared foods and a delicious seed mix with a lab block base prepared by hand by our owner. Everything we eat is safe and monitered very carefully. Fresh vegetables, fruits and specially prepared hard biscuits are a regular treats for everyone around here. For example, this is what one of the mouse and hamster seed mixes looks like: It contains a good assortment of the foods we like and the balance we require. Making the homemade mix is also more economical for our owners. OUR EXTENDED FAMILY: We also live with some other fine animals! Please pay a visit to our feline siblings the cats, the kittens, the ferrets and the fish. And there has to be a human around here somewhere, so please be sure to visit our owner Jen. She's the human force behind Rodent Paradise. She's the crazy person who can be found baking rat treats at 3:00 a.m. and cleaning cages on a Saturday night! You can find all of our siblings and our owner in our Top Friends list.
