About Me
“subdued dreamy melodies and sleepy tempos . . . a lovely, serene, psychedelic interlude†- HARP
“lush, densely layered slices of pop that awaken the senses , an Andy Partridge wet dream†- Paste
“big, bounding Wurlitzer chords and swirls of Mellotron, Hammond, and Chamberlin; languid verses balanced with jangling guitars, a sonic signature that demonstrate the band’s talent for songcraft.†- Pitchfork
“the perfect blend of velvety 60’s-style pop and psychedelia, the result is a distinct sound, where bongos, electric piano and trumpet can happily co-exist.†- Ripsaw
“full of sweet melodies and whispy, moody soundscapes, sort of how a jazz ensemble would sound if they took a lot of drugs, that just-woke-up, lying-in-bed feeling... this year's eerie soundtrack music for endless midnight drives to nowhere†- OC Weekly
The songs the asphalt sings to you as you fly across it from city to city, with that odd familiarity you might feel in different places, seeing them for the first time. It’s that crazy midnight loneliness falling upon you the further you drive on. You now have all the freedom in the world to disappear into the background and watch your front windshield like a picture show as you speed across the music conceived and inspired by the obsessive American roadtrip.
With the success of their 2002 debut release, The Little Pacific, Greater California established their own distinct sound, often inspired by the works of Love, Brian Wilson, the Velvet Underground, the Zombies and Nick Drake. A sound immersed in the musical territory of the 60s with an emphasis on atmosphere, neither understated nor grandiose, and often rooted in minor jazz chordal structures. The band has had the pleasure of opening up for such notable acts as American Analog Set, Calexico, Papa M, Rock Four, The Kingsbury Manx, Jesse Sykes, Fruit Bats and The Minders.
Greater California's music is available at your favorite local record shop, online at Amazon.com , or for immediate online download, visit the iTunes Music store.
