About Me

***serious dubwise ffloodvibes soon come! save the date... big up Surya Dub massiv!!
dj fflood (Transdub Massiv, Urban Resistance, Lunatarium, Cirque Boom, Mystic Urchin, Magic Milkcrates)
dj fflood (born as richard wright, a 1st generation Jamaican born in New York City and living in OAKTOWN) is a dj, remixer, producer, activist and writer. As a dj he has been musically transporting crowds with his intuitive, driving, and eclectic style for over 20 years now. From the sound clashes of Kingston, to the warehouses of New York City, to the clubs of Europe, to the art houses of San Francisco, and lounges of Oakland, his exceptional sense of selection and connection to the crowd has become his signature. His empathic flow from genre to genre is sure to take you along with him as he moves fluidly from the sublimely subtle to the liberatingly raucous. He started amassing his labyrinthine vinyl collection at the age of seven, and at the age of 15, went on to co-found the legendary Ambassador Soundsystem while attending Campion high school in Kingston, Jamaica. Since then, he has submerged himself in a multitude of music and art scenes, from the dancehall street dance, to junglist, house and rave culture, to dubbed out glitch hop & soulful lounge scenes, to sound collage art openings, to live hip hop collaborations, to political circus theater and beyond. Besides being a veteran peddler of audio treats at Etherea Records , he has also held many residencies in clubs and bars all over NYC, and now spins every Saturday at Kingman's Lucky Lounge in Oakland, California AND more recently, during the day at the Breakroom Cafe on Wednesdays (corner of Harrison and 13th in Oakland) from 12-4pm. FREE VENUES Y'ALL!He is a member of the Love Liberation Collective, which is a queer and hetero alliance group of mostly Caribbean descended folks, working together to dismantle institutionalized homophobia in our communities. fflood has also recently launched his fem.men.ist blog, where he expresses some of his feminist/activist/gender politics stances. fflood sees himself as community oriented, a strong feminist, an advocate of polyamory, and an unapologetic straight ally. He also really likes unagi, ackee and saltfish, and lugging around crates of vinyl no matter how heavy it is. More recently, fflood has become a Battlestar Galactica geek. and he is also able to pinch with his toes.
He is also half of the future dub production duo Transdub Massiv ,which alongside mtfloyd features acts such as Meshell Ndegeocello , Ce'cile , Sizzla, Farenheit, Jovi Rockwell, Tami Chynn , Roots Underground and many more amazing talents from Jamaica, Europe and the US. peep the Transdub Massiv page for more details! steppin it hotta dis year... and givin' thanks!
