Timing. For some bands it’s all about timing. In the midst of a music scene drenched in bands that play the same corporate metal and, for lack of a better expression are a dime a dozen, The Machine has taken the initiative to pioneer a new sound. The unique style starts with frontman Rob Goad. His brazen, unrelenting and powerful vocals leave no doubt that his strength and stage show comes from his heart. Coupled with his dark and subversive lyrics, he draws his crowd into the world of The Machine. But he alone does not carry this band. Behind him the rest of the band, consisting of guitarists Phil Hilt and John Carnahan, bassist Dan Jones, and drummer Justin Anderson, create an equally dark sound. Using massive guitar and bass tones, as well as tight thundering drums, The Machine creates what has been called “a wall of soundâ€.
These characteristics give The Machine a powerful and inspiring live show that is rarely seen by a band that is considered “localâ€. Granted with such a show, The Machine has held their own when sharing the stage with nationally touring bands i.e. The Devil Wears Prada, Project 86, Staple, and Dead Poetic. And The Machine is no stranger to the rigors of travel and large shows having played in front of crowd’s ranging from the hundreds to the thousands at Peabody’s: Down Under and the Nutter Center. With their upcoming four song CD release of In Binary, recorded at December Studios, The Machine plans to continue to spread their music to every corner of the world.
Armed with what is needed to make superb and powerful music, The Machine also has the ability to make their music meaningful. As believed by everyone in the band, The Machine is a metaphor for all the things that we allow to control our lives. And the lyrics hint that these vices are not always found externally, but can be found within ourselves. Such a point is reiterated by the repetition of one line in the song The Symbiont Device, and screamed by singer and band; “I am the Machineâ€.
