Ronald K. James was born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Miami, FL. Introduced to music by his parents, Ron’s musical journey began at age 7 on piano and by age 13 he traversed to saxophone, which would become the preoccupation of his love. During high school, he continued to consummate his craft, improving tone and technique, and sketching out the blueprint for a possible future union in matrimony.
In college, Ron’s passion began to permeate and his love affair with music began to foster new feelings of fulfillment. As most true musicians create music for the love of it, Ron became a distinguished culinary artist and only did music as a hobby. Being of Caribbean descent, Ron began to blend cultural, rhythmic, and melodic interpretations of song with inspirations of thought, sound, smell, and taste. Every feeling or emotion experienced became a muse for making music. As was his aptitude in the arena of culinary arts, Ron’s artistic ability to create innovative and appetizing delicacies in the field of music, lead him to pursue performance and record music full-time.
An accomplished saxophonist, Ron James has worked with many music and recording industry greats. Ron is currently featured on RS2 by Rhonda Smith, All Day by William Murphy, Spirit & Truth by New Birth Total Praise Choir and The Best of Ann Nesby Live. Currently residing in Atlanta, GA, Ron’s commitment to excellence has created a massive demand for his musical services and has afforded him the distinct privilege and honor of sharing the stage with Phil Perry, Jill Scott, Anne Nesby, Tramaine Hawkins, Richard Smallwood, Kevin Bond, Frank McComb, Mike Phillips, PJ Morton, Chris Cauley and Dionne Farris.
Being musically influenced by greats such as David Sanborn, David Foster, Quincy Jones, Bob James, and George Duke, Ron is strategically positioned to be a staple in the history of great saxophonists and musical composers. Ron is a member and co-founder of Solid State Horns, a pre-ensemble of horn players used for recordings/performances, currently featured on the Pace Sister’s latest CD. He is also a member of F.L.O.W. (Follow the Leading Of the Wind), a band of studio musicians organized by Grammy Award winning writer and composer Kevin Bond, to educate and instruct up and coming artists.
I Feel Ya, the debut LP from saxophonist Ron James, is a melodic mixture of contemporary Jazz, Blues and Inspirational music with funky rhythmic undertones. With the saxophone, considered to be the instrument closest to the soul of a man, Ron James takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, creating songs that speak life into the heart of the consumer, watering their souls, and causing their spirit to grow.
