About Me

Monsieur Cannibale
Biography
Founded in may 2005 Monsieur Cannibale brings the best of all musical worlds together in one band. With four band members who have their roots in all different types of music the band is trying to make compromizes in their songs which will bring an exciting mix of all types of music. Monsieur Cannibale goes from the intensity of a singer/songwriter to the enthousiasm of a young funk band performing as if there is nothing better on the world! Their most important goal in playing? Having fun on stage and let the crowd have the best time of their lives!
Frank van den Ende (vocals, guitar), Jos Otter (bas), Niels van Lier (guitar) and Frank van der Star (drums/percussion) met each other at the Conservatory of Utrecht where Frank van den Ende was looking for some musicians to perform his songs with. Little did the others know that Frank had allready planned a performance before the rehearsals even started: a band competition in his own birthplace Monster. After rehearsing 2 times the band decided to take the dive in the deep waters of performing and headed of to the band competition in Monster... which they won!
After this great start the band decided to record their first EP which was released under the band name "Monsieur Cannibale and the Vegetarians" and which was titled: "Attack". The band name indicated a seperation between the singer/songwriter name of Frank van den Ende "Monsieur Cannibale" and the rest of the band "the Vegetarians". For a long time this seperation stood for two different sets the band performed. An acoustic more singer/songwriter kind of set on the one side, and a mixture of rock/disco/funk set on the other side.
In the months of december 2005 and januari 2006 the band recorded their first full-length album in the home studio of drummer Frank van der Star. Working together with guest-musicians Annabel de Romijn (Violin), Jos Hoogstad (keys). Shara Bakker (backing vocals) and Hera van Willick (backing vocals) the debut album focused mainly on the singer/songwriter side of the band. Critics compared the sound of Monsieur Cannibale to acts like Coldplay and Jeff Buckley and gave the CD a lot of positive critisism.
After releasing the album in februari 2006 the band had a lot of performances ahead. During this tour which besides the Netherlands also got to England and Denmark, the band decided to drop the seperation in their performing names. From now on the band would be called Monsieur Cannibale and the two sets would be mixed in to one! This mixture was recieved very positively by both the press, different venues and the music-lovers all around the world! Using the internet website MySpace.com the band has gained a solid fanbase!
At this moment the band has gained airplay on the largest dutch radio station "Radio 2" with a retake of the song "I Disgrace Myself". This single has been recorded for It's Your Record! and van be found on the compilation album "It's Your Record!Part 4". On "It's Your Record! Part 5 you can find a retake of the song "Mary Kate".
In may 2007 the band has recorded a live DVD during a unique concert in cafe Greve (the Hague - NL). During this performance the band combined the older material from both Attack and Big City Nights with new material which has been written during the touring!
At the moment the band is working on a new album which will be recorded during the summer of 2008!
