what is burn down the disco indie night?
well if Carlsberg did live music, we would be it's illegitimate four fingered step brother. we bring the very best in new bands to the capital of south yorkshire for your very own listening/viewing pleasure every friday night for the paltry sum of 40 bob (2 quid to the youth).
bands such as the complete stone roses, milburn, one night only, the paddingtons, the headliners, the voltz, last gang, the yell, viva stereo, the johnsons, popup and the dirty dreamers are just a few of those who have experienced the hallowed floorboards of the arches' stage since last year, and be damned skippied there will be more.
but do we only bring you the best in live music? why my dear friends, you are wrong. with the town's best resident dj as well as occaisonal guest slots you get to shake that thang to the best in new and old indie/alternative music around. expect to hear the likes of beck, stone roses, bowie, nirvana, libertines, supergrass, arctic monkeys, kasabian, oasis, pulp, the smiths and oh so much more. pure rock and roll.
so if you don't want to spend every other friday surrounded by music lovers, laughing, joking, shaking that shimmy then you will be pleased to know, walkabout is just down the road.

Around the walls are paintings of famous muscians, such as Jim Morrison, Jarvis Cocker, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and the cost of entry is a very reasonable £2. As a venue it has got a lot going for it and quite frankly it's the best venue I have come accross in Barnsley trouncing more known competitors - if this venue can put on shows as good as this it wont be long before its a stop on every touring bands poster...
Josh - Paddingtons
We thought we were playing at the Phoenix Club when we pulled up, but when we got inside it was shit hot. A proper venue.
The Paddingtons - Live @ BDTD - 22/12/06 - Sandman Magazine
So, The Paddingtons blurt out their first few songs amidst a barrage of beer, bodies and sweat - this is gonna be a good night. And it is.
One of the guitarists, Josh, hammers into his guitar like a man possessed, great. During “Panic Attack†the stage is suddenly turned into a mosh pit… and the floor is empty. Then all I could hear was the drums, seems somebody stood on the off switch. Security weren’t best pleased though. So to lighten the mood Tom decided everybody would enjoy a little chant… “We all Hate Leeds Scumâ€. Needless to say it went down well. 4 years ago on 22nd December the great Joe Strummer died, and so the night ended with a tribute to possibly the greatest lyricist and musician ever. Janie Jones.
The gig was immense, the sort of stuff you watch on a DVD many years after, the stuff of legends.
